Adjective-Monster Drawing

Student will read about a "monster" that you saw last night. There is a brief description of the "monster." The students will draw their version of the monster based on your description. They need to pay attention to the adjectives in order to develop their creature. Then you can discuss how they all knew what to draw. In the end it wasn't a monster at all.....it's a cat :) My classes have always loved this activity.

This lesson uses an apple to show how valuable land is as a natural resource. Cutting the apple into sections to represent mountains, oceans, lakes, and parking lots will show how little land is left for growing crops.

This activity has three headings (the same as, more than, less than). I currently have this set up for the number 16...but since it's a word document you'd be able to edit it to meet your level. I use one of these each week to review. Never let them forget :)

Accommodation & Modification Summary Pages

It can be hard to remember all of the accommodations and modifications when we teach multiple sections in a day. I made a summary chart that I fill out at the start of the year and then print one page per section so I can always refer back quickly. This has helped me to be ahead of the game when it comes to getting students what they need, when they need it! Maybe it will help you too!!

Have students practice reciting sentences with three of the most basic types of punctuation. For example: "I love this class." "I love this class?" "I love this class!" Each one changes a little :) They must also create a few of their own.

Students use "Post-It" notes to write text connections: -Text-to-Text -Text-to-Self -Text-to-World Place on this sheet for your grading purposes, and so you can write a short note on it. *I always have my class place the post it notes directly in the book they are reading, so I can see exactly where they had the thought they wrote about. Hopefully that makes sense in writing :)

Print out the cover page for students to complete. Then glue the page to a folded piece of construction paper. This is a convenient way to store student work samples prior to and during parent teacher conferences. Works incredibly well for me!

When a student doesn't turn in his/her work they must fill one of these out. This way when you're grading, there is still a sheet for them. There is nothing worse than trying to determine who is done and who is not.

Additional biographical information

Another passion of mine is classroom design. With the amount of time we spend in our classrooms, it certainly should be a space you LOVE to be in. If its not...we need to change that! Have fun with it! Your kiddos will appreciate the time and effort too.
