Students will utilize the engineering design process while designing a parking lot for a school. They will collaborate to sketch and then transfer their design onto a large piece of tagboard. They will use toy cars to test their designs and then go back and make any changes. I used this lesson during my interview for my current position and I got the job...I bet it would work for you too! Student will read about a "monster" that you saw last night. There is a brief description of the "monster." The students will draw their version of the monster based on your description. They need to pay attention to the adjectives in order to develop their creature. Then you can discuss how they all knew what to draw. In the end it wasn't a monster at all.....it's a cat :) My classes have always loved this activity.

This lesson uses an apple to show how valuable land is as a natural resource. Cutting the apple into sections to represent mountains, oceans, lakes, and parking lots will show how little land is left for growing crops.

This packet covers elementary level information about the sun and the earth. Vocabulary used includes: sun, orbit, axis, rotate, and equator. I have incorporated a variety of skills and creative outlets for the students to show their knowledge. There is even a speaking practice section at the end. Getting them to use the vocabulary can be tricky!!!

Students will listen to 2 podcasts (4 to choose from) about the future of transportation. They will respond in writing by completing title, summary, reflection, and concern/question. My class completed this during our flight/space unit to continue the discussion about the future of transportation. They enjoyed the variety in activities. Could be a GREAT sub day if you need quick plans! Enjoy!

Have students practice reciting sentences with three of the most basic types of punctuation. For example: "I love this class." "I love this class?" "I love this class!" Each one changes a little :) They must also create a few of their own.

Print out the cover page for students to complete. Then glue the page to a folded piece of construction paper. This is a convenient way to store student work samples prior to and during parent teacher conferences. Works incredibly well for me!

When a student doesn't turn in his/her work they must fill one of these out. This way when you're grading, there is still a sheet for them. There is nothing worse than trying to determine who is done and who is not.

Students must work backwards to see where the mistake is in the solution. They will show the correct answer and use words to explain where the student went wrong. A good way to get them sharing their ideas!!!

This worksheet covers the topics of 1/2 and inches all in one. This is useful as an introductory activity or a review assignment.
