This is a good power point to teach students the characteristics of four bonds (Ionic, Covelant, Polar covelant, and metallic). Then the power point moves on to how to naming compounds using rules and color coding. Naming schemes included are for Ionic bonds, Covelant bonds, compounds containing transistion metals and polyatomic ions. Please load the preview so you can see how it works. There are also pracice slides with answers at a click.

This powerpoint is a good introduction to the periodic table covering how to identify the parts of a box, color coding the phases and types of elements, and the four important families with descriptions. The power point is animated to give small bits of information at a time on each click.
Preview of Average Atomic Mass

Average Atomic Mass

Created by
Science Guy
This is a simple worksheet to show how the average mass is calculated by several methods. The first is by multiplying the number of atoms my their mass and then adding them up to average. The second method is having the percent abundance of each isotope to calculate average. This is a no frills straight forward drill sheet.

This is a good powerpoint for an introductory class of physical science or middle school science. It describes the parts of an atom, the 1st four orbitals, and how to determine the number of protons, nuetrons, and electrons. The powerpoint is animated to give small bits at each click of the mouse. The demo will give you an idea of how it works.

This is a lab that has little maintenance and can be done easily. This lab describes plating a washer or any iron object in copper from pennies. There can be a couple of variations done at once like using a battery or not and of course the amount of pennies. Included with the lab is a cover sheet of tips and suggestions for the lab, answer sheet, and pictures of the lab and results. I have about 20 labs in this format and will either post them or have a disc that can be sent.

This powerpoint introduces balancing equations to an audience that has not done balancing before. The powerpoint is set to only give bits of information after each click of the mouse. I have found that this step by step process of balancing works for many of the introductory equations that will be seen in an introduction to balancing. The process helps with balancing polyatomic ions and oxygens with ease. There are also examples and practice problems. You will notice that the last two slides of

The steps of the scientific method as I present them in class. I use the definition of prediction for Hypothesis since I feel that "educated Guess" does not make sense. There is also a guide to making a good graph with a chart to make the three basic types. The matter is straight forward and simple which includes solving for density and the particle theory of phases. I have a slide that says "Archimedes Day." This is where I have a lesson discussing Archimedes principle and how things float. It

This PowerPoint is intended for a higher level of chemistry. It covers the Rutherford model, Bohr model, and the quantum mechanical model of the atom. There is slides that cover calculating the numbers of electrons, protons, and neutrons. There is also slides that explain how to write the Electron Configuration Notation, Abbreviated Electron Configuration Notation, and the Orbital Notation of the atom. Slides have animation to help with pacing of the lesson to the speed of the teacher.

This is hands down the easiest, fastest, most reliable way to solve stoichiometry problems. I am not kidding. THE BEST. I call it the chart method. This PowerPoint has gram to mole conversions and % composition also. The instructions for stoichiometry are clear and procedural. If you are looking for your students to save time on timed tests, this is the method for you. My chemistry students ask for this when they get to college since the traditional method is crazy lots of work. An example for l

This is a kinesthetic lesson to use for showing the bonding between two oppositely charged Ions. The students will cut out shapes of paper that they will label as Ions with charges and then put them together in the right configuration. When done, they will have a picture of that a molecule with the right ratio of atoms. This is a good way to show the students who atoms combine in their ratios.

About the store

Experience

I have been teaching for 20 years now and have taught physical science, biology, and chemistry. I don't think many of the things I have posted a truly original (besides solving Stoichiometry) but I have changed the ideas to fit my style and the way I run my classes.

Teaching style

My style is kind of like Beakman. I am enthusiastic and can get over excited with the simplest of concepts. This is especially true if it is readily availiable to real world contexts. I have gotten a new ceiling mounted projector and I have been having a blast incorporating it into my style - hence the powerpoints.

My own education history

Associates of Fine Arts Bachelor's in Education with a major in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry Master's in Art of Education

Additional biographical information

I am just a simple kind of guy. It is well known in my class that I am not one to waste on clipart and "pretty" worksheets. I have drill sheets that are meant to reinforce concepts that I teach. I also am not the most gramatically correct or win spelling bees. It is kind of a game for my students to play find the "Mistake Waldo" in my powerpoints. It is alright though since I am getting interaction a little more concentration.
