Atoms PowerPoint Short version

This is a good powerpoint for an introductory class of physical science or middle school science. It describes the parts of an atom, the 1st four orbitals, and how to determine the number of protons, nuetrons, and electrons. The powerpoint is animated to give small bits at each click of the mouse. The demo will give you an idea of how it works.

Acid and Base/ Nuclear science Powerpoint

This is short and sweet since I have very little time to cover nuclear science with Acids and bases in a Physical Science class. When I get to the part where the slide asks whether an acid is worse or a base, most kids will say acid because of the social stigma of acids. I have a story to tell them about was almost severely burned with a strong base. It was in a hospital kitchen no less! I usually follow this up with a simple acid base lab using cabbage, litmus, and universal. I also usually sho

Experience

I have been teaching for 20 years now and have taught physical science, biology, and chemistry. I don't think many of the things I have posted a truly original (besides solving Stoichiometry) but I have changed the ideas to fit my style and the way I run my classes.

Teaching style

My style is kind of like Beakman. I am enthusiastic and can get over excited with the simplest of concepts. This is especially true if it is readily availiable to real world contexts. I have gotten a new ceiling mounted projector and I have been having a blast incorporating it into my style - hence the powerpoints.

My own education history

Associates of Fine Arts Bachelor's in Education with a major in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry Master's in Art of Education

Additional biographical information

I am just a simple kind of guy. It is well known in my class that I am not one to waste on clipart and "pretty" worksheets. I have drill sheets that are meant to reinforce concepts that I teach. I also am not the most gramatically correct or win spelling bees. It is kind of a game for my students to play find the "Mistake Waldo" in my powerpoints. It is alright though since I am getting interaction a little more concentration.
