I found that there weren’t many activities for Archaea so I developed this one for my 7th grade. It is simple, but I think it gets the point across. It could be adapted for higher levels by just giving the 6 types and having them do all the research.
I give them the worksheet with the types of Archaea and a brief definition first. Some years I just give them the worksheet and have them add to their notebook, other years, I have them write the definitions in their notes as I write them on the b
This is a SUPER FUN culmination activity (about 2-3 50 minute class periods) for a genetics unit with a great winter theme! Before completing his activity, students should have a clear understanding of genotype, phenotype, homozygous, heterozygous, dominant, and recessive alleles. They should also understand that traits are passed from parents to offspring. Students will use probability and genetic ideas to create Frosty, his wife Crystal, and 4 snowy offspring. Each step is explicitly outline
These are 20 (easy-hard) chemical equations that need to be balanced. One side of the card has a letter "H,A,P,P,Y..." to spell Happy Thanksgiving! The other side of the card has the equation. It is played as a game that is won when all equations are balanced and it spells "Happy Thanksgiving" across the students' groups' desks. There are 2 that are already balanced thrown in there also. Great for physical science class or chemistry class.
These are TWO SETS of 10 cards that portray a family's pedigree for one trait. They are formatted for Avery business cards product number 8871 but you can print on card stock and cut out just as easily. I feed the paper in once, flip it, then feed it again. Shuffle the cards and have small groups of students (2-4) figure out the "puzzle" and draw the pedigree. Some people's traits in the family are specifically written and others can be inferred based on the lineage. Answer keys included. Have s
I created this as a review for my 7th grade Life Science students after we did a genetics unit (but before the test). I had originally posted the "answer key" so students could check their answers. I found, however, that the students who were struggling were simply copying the answers. So, I came up with idea that they could work through the problems and the answers are "posted as QR" so they can't get out their iPads or phones until I see they have worked through the problem. As they check thro

This is something I created because the catalogs just don't have anything this versatile. You have a series of adorable fishes that can be cut out and laminated and rearranged to create an unlimited combination of Regular, Incomplete, and CoDominant Punnett Squares. There are structured suggestions, but you can be creative and easily add your own twist! Everything you need is here for you.

Block off 3-5 days in your week for this awesome activity! This is an engaging and fun group activity using staff members at your school! Bring science to life with this awesome Valentine day science mystery. Everything is print ready… all you have to do is enter the names of the teachers at your school. All of the directions, handouts, and answer keys are included. Students will work together to figure out the mystery of why many teachers became sick and even died after eating dinner at the Val
I use this with my 8th grade Life Science class around Halloween as we are studying dichotomous keys. They love to figure out each pumpkin name. As a challenge, I have them create their own, smaller version of a dichotomous key (with about 10 creatures) after they complete this one. Teacher key included. I have also included both word and PDF files so if want to edit the directions, etc, you have an option! Please email me at mrscorron@gmail.com if there are any problems BEFORE posting feedback!

This is just a quick review for when you are discussing periodic table, atomic mass, atomic number, symbols, protons, neutrons, and electrons. I give students a copy of the periodic table so they can complete this. They can write their answer in the space provided and then use their phones or tablets to check the answers.
Good for use as an "exit ticket."
