Variables and Expressions
Introduces students to algebraic expressions and how to write them. Interactive. I give students individual whiteboards and on the practice slides they work out the problems and hold them up for me to see. All are involved and I can tell right away who has the concept and who needs more work.

PowerPoint presentation to get 6th graders thinking about how to translate word phrases into mathematical expressions. Includes Order of Operations. Interactive. Students have individual whiteboards and for the practice questions they work out the answers and hold them up for me to see. This keeps them involved and I can tell right away who is getting the concept and who may need additional practice.

Teaching style
Interactive. I use individual white boards often in class. My PowerPoint slide presentations have questions for the class after we've done some examples. Students answer on the whiteboards, hold them up and I can tell immediately who is "getting" the concept and who isn't.

While I was a stay-at-home mom I took the necessary course work (one class a semester!) to become certified to teach middle school math in NJ.
