This creative book report focuses on the genre of realistic fiction and the importance of relatable characters and storylines for young readers. Along the way, your students will put their creativity to the test as they analyze relationships and plot events that lead to important changes for the main character, discuss point of view and learn to view situation from an alternate perspective, and focus on developing empathy and problem solving skills as they create a fictional journal between them
Students put together a holiday catalogue of gifts that they would like to purchase for family members and friends. Please see below for student directions and project goals.
Student directions:
Can you believe the holiday vacation is right around the corner? This year, you are going to be in charge of buying gifts for your family members! Did you overhear your mom say she really wanted a new kitchen doo-dad? How about your dad talking about that new power tool? It is your responsibility to
In this essay project, students will be tasked with writing a persuasive essay from the point of view of one character from the novel Bull Run by Paul Fleischman. This essay is a culminating project, touching on themes and discussion topics that need to have been focal points during the unit. Students will be presenting their arguments dressed in character and period costume, using notecards with key presentation points. This project will also integrate well with a debate unit.

This book report was one of the most engaging and rewarding assignments I gave throughout the year. It has become a mainstay of my curriculum and can be used across grade levels. I created it with a 3rd grade group in mind and currently use it in 4th grade.
The inspiration for this project came from the idea of Genius Hour. Many of you have heard of that or have used it in your classroom already. Since I teach in a dual curriculum day school, I have anywhere from 2.5-3 h

What’s the Big Idea? This book report was one of the most engaging and rewarding assignments I gave throughout the year. This presentation style has become a mainstay of my curriculum and is a reinterpretation of my Festival of Living Geniuses project (which is also for sale in my store). The inspiration for this project came from the idea of Genius Hour. Many of you have heard of that or have used it in your classroom already. Since I teach in a dual curriculum day school, I have anywhere from
This dynamic lesson will have your students engaged, excited, and using hands-on, real-world manipulative to explore the world of capacity. I used this lesson during our unit on customary measurement, but it can also be used with metric measurement or both at the same time. The students will be creating potions while practicing using measurement tools and converting with capacity measurement.
As always, if you have any questions or comments please feel free to reach out at my store or email me
This book review book report was created for a 3rd grade class as their first book report of the year. It can also be used with 2nd or 4th grade students and given in a variety of formats. Students choose a Newbery Winner (or Honor book) and write a review using the template given in the packet. This project can be used alongside a lesson or unit on choosing a good-fit book since it relates to book recommendation. Some essential questions can be: In what ways is a book a good fit for you? Would
Looking for a "break the ice" or "get to know you" activity that will leave your students with wonderful anticipation for the year? Look no further than this snowball fight activity! Students anonymously fill out a questionnaire and engage in a snowball fight with each other. Your students will not only have a blast lobbing paper snowballs at each other in the first week of school, but they will also crack up as they read aloud the answers on the questionnaire and guess who's who! I play this ga
Place tidy tubs around the room during any craft activity in order to decrease traffic to the garbage can and avoid bits and scraps of paper all over the floor. Just print, laminate, and affix to the bucket or bin of your choice!
It is so important to make an effort to get to know your students' families and habits in the beginning of the year. We collect this data in so many different ways... from student interest surveys, student learning surveys, ice breaker games, one-on-one personal communication with students and their families, etc. Parent surveys are one other way to collect some of this data at the beginning of the year. This survey can be handed out before school starts or within the first few weeks. It can be
There comes a point in every teacher's career where she or he exhausts all patience with picking up bits 'n pieces from the floor and asking, "Whose is this?" while students avoid eye contact. Functioning as a mini lost-and-found for the room, the missing parts bucket is a lifesaver! Simply print, laminate, and affix to a small bucket or bin. Students utilize it throughout the day and students whose classroom job it is to help tidy up now have a designated area to put unclaimed items.
