Experience

There is no better feeling as a language teacher than equipping students with strategies needed to figure out the grammar, make cultural connections, and feel empowered to teach their peers - that's when the magic happens! My lessons and activities are student-centered and help motivate and engage students to take ownership of their language learning. Student confidence increases with my lessons because they learn the tools and literacy strategies needed to make connections and collaborate with peers to figure out the grammar, vocabulary, and culture. Students feel successful in my classroom, and their growth in language proficiency and increase of cultural awareness and connections show it! I am currently teaching Spanish 4 honors, Spanish 5, and Spanish 6 in a highly rated public high school in Connecticut. I have also had experience teaching 8th grade Spanish, Spanish 1, 2, and 3.

Teaching style

My activities promote critical thinking, connect to current events, make Spanish meaningful to students, and are interactive and fun. Students constantly make connections between their own cultures and those of the Spanish-speaking world, and collaborate with their classmates to make meaning of the Spanish language!

Awards & shining teacher moments

When students who previously struggled while learning Spanish develop the self confidence and strategies needed to succeed in my classroom. Many students have told me over the years that Spanish was their least favorite class until they stepped into my room! They reflect that they have positive experiences and are willing to take intellectual risks when in my classroom, and I hope you can develop those emotions within your own students too.

My own education history

Certificate in Educational Leadership (School Administration) from Central Connecticut State University. Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Connecticut. Bachelors degrees in Spanish Literature and Secondary Education from the University of Connecticut.

Additional biographical information

When not designing curriculum and lesson plans from scratch, I am spending time with my husband, two young children, and two cats. We love to travel - Spain is a second home to us! Nothing beats the tapas vibe while sitting along a plaza with a sangria or tinto de verano in hand. My store logo and banners were designed by Rebecca B Designs.
