These journal pages are meant to be used everyday as morning work or for math writing activities. At the beginning of the year, students begin with basic concepts. As the year progresses the expectations become more rigorous. All of the 1st Grade Common Core Number Sense skills are covered throughout the year.
These graphic organizers allow you to see your students thinking. I use them as I model and record my thinking. Then, I have the students use it during our mini-lessons for guided practice. Once students have demonstrated the ability to use the graphic organizer, I assess them using it. They also provide an opportunity for students to decide how they could make better choices in the future. The think sheet provides a home-school connection by having a parent signature line. Teaching style
I would say that I am "serious" about making sure all of my students grow and meet their goals. I focus on creating a strong classroom community and structured routines, so that my students feel safe to learn, grow, and explore their thinking.
Awards & shining teacher moments
I have been honored to speak at several Professional Development sessions within my district. I am also happy to be serving on my district's Language Arts Committee as well as the School Improvement Team.
I have been awarded the "90% Growth" award from my previous school. This award was given to me for having 90% of my students grow a year and a half according to their NWEA MAP scores.
