These journal pages are meant to be used everyday as morning work or for math writing activities. At the beginning of the year, students begin with basic concepts. As the year progresses the expectations become more rigorous. All of the 1st Grade Common Core Number Sense skills are covered throughout the year.

These graphic organizers allow you to see your students thinking. I use them as I model and record my thinking. Then, I have the students use it during our mini-lessons for guided practice. Once students have demonstrated the ability to use the graphic organizer, I assess them using it. Later, I add it to their reading journals so they can show their thinking during independent reading time.
