This is an activity in which students find the factors of 1-24 using cookie cereal to make arrays to assist them. They complete a chart as they find each factor. After finding the factors or 1-24, there is a sheet in which they identify the prime and composite numbers. There are also practice finding factors worksheets included. I created this activity as an alternative to the Core Curriculum Unit 2 Activity 4. I've used it in my classroom and it worked very well.
In this unit, students explore the concept of divisibility, establish divisibility rules, complete a worksheet, play a game, and take a quiz. The unit takes a week to complete.
Activity 1: (2 days) Students explore divisibility using counters. Instead of counters, I use a food product, either cereal or cheez-its. Students work in pairs to divide the counters into the groups assigned in the chart and record the number of groups made.
