About the store
Teaching is my second career. I spent 14 years in the computer software industry, starting out as a programmer and working my way up to Information Systems Manager. I then owned a small newsletter publishing business for 5 years. After selling the business, I decided to teach math - my very favorite subject. I have taught Intensive math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra I in a middle school classroom, and I've taught Intensive Math, Algebra 1 and Geometry in the High School setting. I currently am teaching High School Pre-Calculus, Algebra II and at the college level Intermediate Algebra and College Algebra.

As an 8th grade math teacher, I found that many of my students had forgotten their basic math facts. I needed a quick way for them to practice the math facts daily until they had remembered them, thus I developed the Math Facts Drill sheets which contains 5 days worth of 25 problems each day. There is a sheet for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It didn't take long using the drill sheets before my students had remember their math facts, allowing them to compute more complex

I taught middle school math for several and came up with a fun way for students to practice their rounding skills. The game is called Rounding hangman and can be played in groups of 2-4 students. The game includes 24 rounding cards to be printed that include decimals to the ten thousandths place. It also includes money as many students can round regular numbers, but when you change it to money, they seem to get stuck. This game will help with that as well. You can also use the blank card te

I'm always trying to come up with fun and different games that students can play to practice a math concept we've learned in the classroom. This game is based on the popular card game called PIG (or some people play a similar game called Spoons). Anyhow, students play this game in groups of 3-8 (6-8 players in a group is best). In the regular PIG card game, players try to find a match of 4 of the same cards. In this variation, players try to find a match of 4 cards - an addition, subtraction

This is a manipulative that also can be used as a game or math center activity to practice adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. There are many ways to teach adding positive and negative numbers, but the method I found that worked best for my middle school students was using a hot air balloon analogy. Hot air represents positive numbers and sandbags represent negative numbers. Adding hot air will cause the balloon to rise, while adding sandbags causes the balloon to go down.

As a middle school teacher, I am always trying to come up with fun ways to review concepts that have been taught in class. Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Integers needs lots of practice for students to master, so I came up with the Integers Matching Game which is played similar to concentration. Students try to find a problem/answer pair to form matches. My students really enjoyed playing this game. I have included 3 different levels of cards allowing you to group students by

This download is a bundled package of my popular Rounding Numbers Poem and Rounding Numbers Hangman Game. Rounding Numbers Poem When I taught middle school math, I needed a way for students to remember all aspects of rounding – especially when rounding decimal numbers. Most of the poems I found did not take in to account what you do with the digits following the number being rounded, nor did it provide a way to remember the different place values to help students find the digit they were round

This activity is designed to help students recognize the symbols related to keywords and to understand what the various math/geometry symbols mean. Students will create a message of symbols using the decoder sheet that lists the words associated with each symbol and the code letter associated with the symbol. The students then use the same decoder sheet that to decode another student’s message. For example, > x |x| + corresponds to the words “is greater than,” “times,” “absolute value

Teaching style

I have a very mixed style of teaching depending on my audience. I like to use hands on activities whenever possible. I also believe that the only way to reach every student is to teach several different ways of arriving at the same answer. Most students will find the way that is the easiest for them to understand.
