Progressive Projects Based On A Theme for Grades K - 5The ‘I Am’ poem is probably the oldest form of creative writing. Portraits have been created since ancient times. In Egypt portraits were painted on panels of mummy cases in the 3rd Century. Self-portaits, however, didn’t happen until the 1400’s when maybe artists had greater importance in society. Early self-portraits include Dürer’s of 1493, Rembrandt’s of 1659. I have included in this packet:* Progressive projects based on a theme* Why make self-portraits? * A list of exceptional self-portraits for reference* Some suggestions for artists* Self-portr

About the store

Experience

As a retired public school Art Teacher I have over twenty-five years art teaching experience for grades Kindergarten to Ninth Grade. I have also worked at a Magnet School as an Enrichment specialist. As a working artist, I continue to investigate visual arts through my water-colors, acrylic paintings and printmaking projects.

Teaching style

I believe artists should both be organized as well as be open to new and non-directive options. My classroom is tidy and messy at the same time. I believe there are many types of students that progress in a variety of ways. I try to give them all the possible options.

Awards & shining teacher moments

My artwork has been shown in group shows, CT Women Artists, as well as solo shows, Noah's Restaurant, Stonington CT. I have self published six books related to Irish folklore. As a secondary interest, I have helped co-ordinate a building nomination to the National Register of Historic Places (Winslow Ames House) as well as a historic neighborhood (Rossie Mill National Register District)

My own education history

M.F.A. University of Connecticut M.A.T. Rhode Island School of Design Continued Education Digital Art, Rhode Island School of Design (Digital Arts as well Fabric Design)

Additional biographical information

I started my own publishing company, 'Blue Bottle Print' selling my Irish history books for children. I also have an Etsy site where I currently am showing my 'Mudlarking' watercolors, Bluebottleprint at Etsy.
