Factor Polynomials Cut and Paste gives students the opportunity to categorize 31 polynomials based on binomials vs trinomials. Then students further categorize into:
♦quadratic formula
♦trinomials with a = 1
♦trinomials with a not equal to 1
♦perfect square trinomials
♦difference of squares
♦sum of 2 cubes
♦difference of cubes.

Often students are asked to participate in fundraising to support their school and/or organizations, but how do those organizations set goals for selling? In this activity, students will use their knowledge of graphing systems of inequalities (or linear programming) to propose fundraising goals. The scenario the students work through is a real life scenario that occurred in my school. In the introduction, students brainstorm possible solutions to this problem, then the activity walks them thr
In this activity students apply their knowledge of systems of inequalities (or linear programming) to a very real life problem – their semester grade! This activity is intended for high school students to determine what grades they need for their 2nd quarter and exam to earn a particular grade for the semester. The student is walked through the process of creating inequalities that apply to this situation. It is based on the student’s first quarter grade and the assumption that quarter grades
In this activity, students are given various clues such as the standard form of the equation of a line, point slope form, slope, x intercept, y intercept, and 2 random points. They are to use the given information to find the remaining missing information. This activity is a great way for students to demonstrate understanding and connections between these different components of a linear function. The activity can be used as an enrichment for a lower grade level Algebra class, practice for an
Give students a transparent tool to help them label triangles!
Students often have trouble labeling parts (such as x, 2x, a, b, c, opposite, adjacent, hypotenuse, etc) of triangles for Special Triangles, Pythagorean Theorem, and Trigonometry. To help my students do this correctly, I give each student a labeled triangle printed on transparency film.
Then when students are working on one of these types of problems, they line up their transparency with the problem on their paper. They line up
Help students figure out what to do next when solving area problems. This graphic organizer gives students a step by step process for solving area and it gives them space within the organizer to solve these problems. This document is set up as a template so teachers can have students fill in with whatever problems relate to the specific classroom. Students should write each step of their process next in the space provided next to the step description.

Experience
I have been teaching HS math since 2001. I have a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Math Ed and a Master's Degree in Technology in the Classroom.
Teaching style
My philosophy of teaching is to find different ways for students to learn. I believe it is important to show students that math does apply to the "real world" and that yes, indeed, math can be fun.
