Today's Number / Number of the Day is a great whole group, small group or individual center activity that reinforces many different ways to represent a number and builds strong number sense. It aligns nicely to the common core. I start using this more complex version in January as a whole group activity as some of the concepts are not taught until later in the year. The ten frames only allow for the representation of numbers to 30 which goes beyond the kindergarten common core. But our kiddo

This set is also found with the polka dot border.
One of my kids' favorite things to make are CLASS BOOKS! When it is free-reading time they always go for the ones they've made. Kids feel a great sense of pride when their work is a part of something the class treasures.

This cute skill mastery check off sheet is a fun way for the kids to see what skills they have mastered. When a skill has been mastered, the child can check off that skill or put a sticker in the box next to the skill. I have homework folders that have a clear sleeve on the back. I put these check off sheets in the sleeve. It is a quick way for the kids and parents to see what they have mas
This center activity focuses on number sense, subitizing and different ways to represent numbers.
You’ll need a large pocket chart with 10 rows. On the side of each row put the numbers 1-10 or 10-20, depending upon what numbers you are studying, one card being on the left side of each row. On the top row of the chart, evenly space the other number representation cards. When I set out this center, each child takes turns and randomly pulls one card out of the pile. They find the correct row

Simple one page sheet that can be used at the beginning of the year or during your VIP / Star Student weeks. We use these at the beginning of the year and make into a class book which the kids LOVE. Encourage kids to print off family pictures to glue in the family box. The kids love looking at real pictures.
This lesson helps introduce making a ten and is reinforced with the attached practice sheet. 'The kid roll a die, record the number that was rolled, color in that many dots on the ten frame and count how many more are needed to make a ten. They then complete the number equation.
This starts out as a whole group activity and can continue to be so, or allow your students who find the concept easy to work on their own. This can also be a center when the concept has already been mastered.
Here's a yummy way to talk about our 5 senses! There are so many different kinds of candy canes out there during the holiday season. Buy a variety and have fun with your kiddos!!
I've tried just about everything to help my kids remember spaces between words and letters! So far, this has been my kids' favorite! Show them that small spaces between letters are spaghetti spaces and large spaces between words are meatball spaces! Voila! My kids love it and it works!
