Students will create a never before heard of creature and determine where that creature belongs in an ecosystem and how it interacts with other organisms within that ecosystem. Includes project instructions and grading rubric - both editable for your convenience.
Students choose a biome to research and create a travel guide for. My students made webpages and blogs, but this project could easily be done by just creating a brochure or book. Includes a project instructions and grading rubric
Students explore the amount of freshwater available for use by humans and design a product or solution to the scarcity of freshwater experienced by locations around the globe. This activity utilizes the STEM design cycle (Empathy, Ideate, Prototype, Feedback, Reflect, and Create). Students explore reasons why a place lacks freshwater (geography, politics, etc.) and have to design a product or solution that fits the needs and culture of a particular location. I took the project one step further
Students will observe the growth of 9 bean sprout labs under 3 unique conditions that they choose. They will write a formal lab report at the end. Students learn about: The Scientific Method Experimental Design Making and recording observations Taking measurements Calculating averages Organizing data in graphs and tables Dependent and independent variables I give them the bean sprouts and basic materials, if they want to get fancy they need to bring in their own materials. Includes project ins
For this project, students choose to redesign their current school or create a whole new one and then create a scale blueprint of their design. The focus of this project is on redesigning a school to promote sustainability. Students are encouraged to use alternative energy sources, sustainable building materials, and create a sustainable school culture. Students also utilize aspects of engineering and other CTE or design classes. I used this project as an end of the year project with my STEM Ear
Students work in groups to design a biosphere that will be able to sustain itself in a mason jar. I had the students observe and record changes that took place over a two-week period. I provided some of the materials for my students, but many brought in their own.
Engage your students in a hands-on activity that explores the fascinating predator-prey relationship between snowshoe hares (rabbits) and Canadian lynx. Using real historical data from the Hudson's Bay Company fur trade records, students will graph population trends over time and analyze the cyclical patterns of these species. This activity emphasizes key ecological concepts, including carrying capacity, population cycles, and ecosystem dynamics.
An outline for a brochure project involving environmental threats. Students choose an environmental threat to research and create a brochure. Includes directions, a graphic organizer to organize student's thoughts, and a place to cite sources.
Students track a constellation in the night sky over the course of a year. They learn about how the earth's tilt and rotation has an effect on how we view constellations. Students will then create a constellation map that depicts their constellation each month of the year
Vocabulary and concept activity or review for pressure systems. As students complete the activity, a pixel image will appear. Pixels appear every time a correct answer is provided, the entire image will be visible when the activity is correctly completed. A great, quick, activity while also allowing the students to check their own answers!
This pixel puzzles lets students independently practice analyzing station models. When a student answers a question correctly, part of the final picture appears.
