It's Not A
A favorite creative thinking activity my students of all ages love! This goes well with the simple book, "It's Not a Box." However, it is not necessary as you can begin this by passing around a simple item and having students think of what else that item could be. I use a stick or a toilet paper tube, depending on the age. The printing format supports many levels K/1: Pages 1-14 It's Not A Box, drawings only. I used this with kindergarten and first in the beginning of the year. K-2: Pages 15-2

Desk Labels for Easy Groupings

Proving Character Traits
We need to read about what a character says, does, and how others react to the character to prove his/her traits. I wrote this story with those ideas in mind. I've used this three times, once as a homework, another time as a test and a third time to begin explaining how to use quotes to prove an answer. Enjoy!

Placing the Decimal Multiplication Scoot
Quickly practice or review placing decimals using standard algorithm! Students are given products and have to scoot from desk to desk to figure out where to put the decimal. On the desks they'll read an equation, count the places past the decimal and place it correctly in the product.
Students LOVE scoot, I always play it with music. Dance when the music is on, scoot to a desk when the music is off!

Fiction Thinkmarks
These "thinkmarks," were used as a reading workshop seatwork activity to parallel the minilesson. I collected these as a sort of 'exit ticket,' and could quickly evaluate if my minilesson could be transferred to their own texts. The small circles on each one are for their class number.

Using Multiple Perspectives to See a Problem
This worksheet was created to pair with some SEL with an ELA activity. However, it can stand alone as a simple SEL reflective lesson, creative writing start or to teach about using speech in writing. Students are asked to choose a problem and take on the perspective of three people (or, if you'd like, animals/objects for personification fun). This adjective collector focus on the five senses and pairs with an activity where students look at pictures through the lens of their senses.

Comma Hunt
This letter uses the six typical comma rules. After teaching a lesson on these rules, I have students complete this comma hunt. They've loved arguing over where a comma should go. Have them fold the bottom backwards, hiding it until they've finished.

Forms of Decimals
This worksheet is a review of the standard form, expanded form and the word form of decimal numbers. After you print it, you need to fill in the answer key, or delete that box. I've used this as an extension post-seatwork and as a math station. Having the answer key allows students to grade their own work.

Student Computer Passwords for Teacher Files
The beginning of the year is stressful. 30 kids signing into computers, forgetting their username and passwords over and over again! I made this to keep a record of the information for my core 1 students (middle school style). They are asked to bookmark important websites after writing their username, password and lunch number. Additional biographical information
The name "Stuff and Things," is a tribute to my first 5th grade class. We discussed the need to be more descriptive and avoid saying 'stuff and things' in our writing and speaking and then it became our inside joke. So, since my creations do not fit nicely into one box, they are stuff and things.
I currently teach K-8 STEM, allowing me a great big swath of creative freedom. I've taught middle school science, 5th grade and 2nd grade. I started on TPT when we all only gave each other free resources and I loved the genuine sharing for our students benefits.
