My first year of teaching was 7th grade science in Waco, Texas. Then I got married and moved to Virginia, where I taught 7th/8th grade mathematics (pre-algebra) for 12 years in and out of a collaborative model. I then taught 6th grade math virtually. Now I'm a 6-8 math interventionist in Tennessee (and loving it!).
This is a coloring worksheet with 12 problems that make connections between graphs, tables, equations, and word problems. The problems are limited to multiplicative (y = mx, positive m) and additive relationships (y = x + b). This resource aligns to the Virginia Math 7 SOL (7.10e). When you purchase this product, you may use it for yourself and your classroom. If you want to share it with your colleagues, please purchase additional licenses. Don't forget to leave feedback! You'll earn TpT cr
We use this as a review of coordinate plane concepts that students should already know. It involves identifying the parts of the coordinate plane, plotting points, and domain/range. Students keep this in their notebook. You could also use this as a pre-assessment or quiz to see what students know or remember. Maybe it's even a review worksheet of your coordinate plane unit. This activity now has a digital component via Google Slides. The parts are the divided up among slides with text boxes
This is a coloring sheet that identifies slope in various forms from multiplicative (proportional) relationships only (y = mx). There are 12 questions ranging from word problems, equations, tables, and graphs. The answers to each question are on the coloring sheet. This product aligns to the Virginia Math 7 SOL (7.10a). When you purchase this product, you are purchasing it for your classroom only. If you want to share it with your colleagues, please purchase additional licenses for each one.
We use this paper in class as the notes for graphing linear equations on a coordinate plane. In 8th grade, they can't use a graphing calculator, so we teach them the plug-and-chug method of choosing x-values, putting them through the function machine, and getting the y-values. We walk the students through the first page and then let them try the second page on their own. You could also use this paper as a review or as a pre-quiz to see what students do or do not already know. This product also
If you need an activity that helps students explore where the coordinate plane applies to life, this is the one for you! It applies latitude and longitude to x- and y-coordinates so students can create ordered pairs for the continents. There is a color version, black-and-white version, and digital version via Google Drawings. I've also included an answer key! When you purchase this resource, you agree to use it for your classroom only. If you would like to share it with your colleagues, plea
This is a coloring worksheet with 12 questions that identifies y-intercept in the forms of graphs, equations (y = x + b), word problems, and tables. The answers are on the design for students to color. This resource aligns with the Virginia Math 7 SOL (7.10c). When you purchase this product, it is for your classroom use. If you wish to share it with your colleagues, please purchase additional licenses for each colleague. Don't forget to leave feedback! It doesn't just help future buyers, it
I made this worksheet for our coordinate plane unit to apply the skills they just learned. Students are given a linear relationship situation and they must do the following:
- write an equation
- complete a chart with that equation
- graph the values in the chart (students must label the graph)
- name the independent/dependent variables
- use the graph to predict a result
- use the equation to predict a result
There are 4 situations, so you can choose the ones you like. You could even make on
This is a fun Fly Swatter game for you to play as a review of slope and y-intercept of multiplicative (y = mx) and additive (y = x + b) relationships! There are 3 groups of representations: tables, equations, and graphs. I've included a set of questions for you to ask at each grouping. All you have to do is print them out, post them in your room, get a couple of clean fly swatters, and have fun! When you purchase this product, you are purchasing it for your classroom only. If you want to sha
This is a short worksheet you can use as notes or for remediation of slope and y-intercept as it pertains to additive (y = x + b) and multiplicative (y = mx) relationships. It includes identifying proportional and linear relationships. You can also find this worksheet in this bundle. I've added a virtual version via Google Slides for distance learning. When you purchase this resource, it is for your classroom only. If you want to share it with colleagues, please purchase extra licenses for
This is a worksheet I made to cover VA SOL 7.10e where students have to differentiate between additive and multiplicative relationships while also matching different representations of each. The digital version includes a front page with links to additional resources so students can get help while working on it. When you purchase this product, you agree to use it in your classroom only. If you want to share it with your colleagues, please purchase additional licenses. I'd love to hear your fee
My co-teacher and I came up with this game to help students learn to automatically go up and over when graphing the slope of a multiplicative relationship. We played it virtually and the kids were completely into it! They even wanted printed copies so they could play at home! I encourage you to try it and let me know how it goes. The premise of the game is using slope to get past the line first. There are 2 lines for 2 different game plays that lead to a conversation about which slopes are s
This quick worksheet has 2 sections of 6 questions each: Prove the statement is true and prove the statement is false. It addresses tables, equations, and graphs by focusing on explaining the math. An answer key is provided with possible explanations. On the last page, there is a copying link for the Google Slides version to use with your virtual students or keep the class paperless. Remember, when you purchase this item, you are purchasing it for your classroom only. If you want to share it wit
This is an activity that graphs multiple equations in the form of y = mx or y = x + b on one coordinate plane. Students make the lines black (like stained glass) and then color the sections created by the lines. This product aligns to the Virginia Math 7 SOL (7.10b and 7.10d). When you purchase this product, you are purchasing it for your classroom only. If you want to share it with your colleagues, please purchase additional licenses for each one. Please remember to leave feedback! It helps
Practice plotting points by making a picture! This picture is an emoji, if students follow the directions correctly. When you purchase this product, you agree to use it in your classroom only. If you want to share it with your colleagues, please purchase additional licenses. I love hearing how my products work in your classroom! Please consider leaving feedback about this item. You'll also earn TpT credits as a result!

Experience
My first year of teaching was 7th grade science in Waco, Texas. Then I got married and moved to Virginia, where I taught 7th/8th grade mathematics (pre-algebra) for 12 years in and out of a collaborative model. I then taught 6th grade math virtually. Teaching style
I prefer hands-on, discovery learning with lots of discussion, activity, and analysis. I'm a big fan of Jo Boaler and standards-based grading, so I prefer collaboration over lectures.
Awards & shining teacher moments
My principal has honored me with the Starfish Award for going above and beyond my duties.
I have also been awarded Teacher of The Week by current and former students.
My own education history
I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. I am certified to teach grades 4-8 in math and science in Texas, grades 6-8 mathematics/science and Algebra in Virginia and Tennessee, and I hold a Master of Education in School Leadership.
Additional biographical information
I have led professional development on creating a positive relationship with middle school students. I also created the activities and worksheets we used in our 7th/8th grade math curriculum. As a math interventionist, I use small groups and collaboration to address learning gaps and misunderstandings.
