My first year of teaching was 7th grade science in Waco, Texas. Then I got married and moved to Virginia, where I taught 7th/8th grade mathematics (pre-algebra) for 12 years in and out of a collaborative model. I then taught 6th grade math virtually. Now I'm a 6-8 math interventionist in Tennessee (and loving it!).
This worksheet has the simple interest formula and what each variable stands for. The first section has a table to fill in for 5 problems. The second section has 6 simple interest word problems. It's great practice for simple interest, but it could also be used to study after it's been graded! This purchase now includes a digital version via Google Slides. The worksheet is broken up into sections for each slide and text boxes placed in each answer slot. Directions for the work are in the Not
These flashcards include 50 concepts across 2 pages from the Virginia Math 8 (2023) standards. Please review the thumbnails to see all the covered concepts. In my classroom, I print these on colored paper and let the students cut them out. They take them home to study at the end of the year. You can also use them in class as stations or bell work. Have students make 2 stacks -- ones they know and ones they need to study more. You may also like my Performance Tracking Sheet for the Math 8 20
This worksheet is based off a different one I saw that used the commutative and associative properties. This worksheet gives examples of the identity and inverse properties using numbers and symbols. If students answer it correctly, they answer the riddle at the top of the page.
Most of the worksheets I've come across for composite figures are boring and not related to life. I created this worksheet as a way to make composite shapes applicable to life. It took a lot of time, but I'm proud of the final product. I have never gotten my students to the point where I thought they could handle this worksheet. I would love someone to give it to theirs and tell me how it goes!
We use this as a review of coordinate plane concepts that students should already know. It involves identifying the parts of the coordinate plane, plotting points, and domain/range. Students keep this in their notebook. You could also use this as a pre-assessment or quiz to see what students know or remember. Maybe it's even a review worksheet of your coordinate plane unit. This activity now has a digital component via Google Slides. The parts are the divided up among slides with text boxes
On the first day of school, teachers use that time to tell the students about the class and classroom. How about you gather some information about your students and their feelings about math at the same time? This purchase has two sheets available. Both cover questions like -- - evaluative questions about the student's perceived mathematical ability - questions about their mathematical mindset - personal questions about what makes them unique or what they intend to do after graduation Th
In my classroom, I teach my students to order numbers using a specific process. First, change all the numbers into decimals. Second, line up the decimals. Third, write the numbers in the correct order. This worksheet provides space for this process. This worksheet includes 4 ordering problems containing numbers in decimal form, fraction form, scientific notation, square root form, and percent form. The last question asks students to describe the process they used to order numbers. I've incl
I created this sheet for my students to practice mark-ups, discounts, and tax without the word problems aspect. Not every problem is looking for the final price. Some of them give the final price with enough information to find something else, like the original price or the amount of discount. It's only 8 problems, though, with 2 bonus questions.
The previous issue with incorrect answers has been fixed!
This quiz includes discounts, tax, and tip. There is one proportion problem just to see if the students are paying attention. Some of the problems include real coupons or sale excerpts. The last problem has a guest check that a waitress/waiter could have written. There are 10 total problems. Although I use this as a quiz, you could easily use it as a review.
This is a bundle of each coloring sheet and activity I've created for VA SOL 7.10abcde (additive and multiplicative relationships). It includes all the coloring worksheets for this topic, a Fly Swatter game, and remediation/intervention worksheets, including answer keys. The price is set so you get one of the coloring worksheets for free! A preview is forthcoming, but until then, you can view the individual resources to determine if you want all the resources. In my classroom, I teach the students to order numbers using a specific process. First, change all the numbers to decimals. Second, line up the decimals. Third, write the numbers in the correct order. This worksheet provides space for each step. There are 4 ordering questions that include numbers represented in scientific notation, decimal form, and fraction form. The final question asks students to write about the process they used. There is also a digital format via Google Slides that con
This is a matching activity for students to practice their skills at translating inequalities. There are 3 sets of 3 similar-looking inequalities (total of 9 inequalities) and phrases to describe them. This could be a quick review or a do now (bell ringer/work)! Also included is a copying link to a Google Form where students match the numerical inequality to its translation.
This is a package of 7 homework sheets practicing the order of operations using GEMDAS. Some problems are thoughtful rather than simplifying a problem, i.e., create your own way to remember GEMDAS. One homework has one problem solved 2 ways and students must figure out who is right and why. Another homework goes with the Bubble Activity I'm selling.
Problems may include parentheses, square roots, absolute value, and the division bar. Each page has 2-3 homeworks to conserve paper.

My students need to know the difference between the solution to an equation and the solution to an inequality. I created this worksheet to explore the similarities in solving each and the differences in the answers. To check for understanding, there is space at the bottom to write an explanation of what the student learned.
This worksheet includes 10 statements, plus one bonus statement, that should be answered as Always True, Sometimes True, or Never True. Students must also explain why they chose that. It includes statements like, "All fractions are rational numbers". It's meant to spark discussion and deepen the understanding of the real number system. I give this worksheet on a class-to-class basis, depending on where I think the students are in their understanding and confidence. *Update - An answer key has
Want to make your first day or week with your students more interesting? Maybe you need an easy way to learn about your students while also creating a community of learners. This activity is for you! This worksheet provides all the framework for you to invest as much or as little time as you want into it. Here are some suggestions for how to use it -- 1. Give it as a Do Now on that first day so you can focus on attendance or seating charts. 2. Use one or more of the questions as closures to cla
This purchase includes 3 worksheets for making connections between tables, graphs, practical problems, and equations for additive (y = x + b) and multiplicative (y = mx) relationships. Two of the sheets are meant as remediation, but the third one is a color-by-number worksheet. All of them have answer keys. Each activity also has a digital component through Google Slides or Forms. When you purchase this product, you are purchasing for your classroom only. If you want to share it with your co
This activity gets the students up out of their seats and helps them learn to recognize and name the properties of operations. The properties included are the commutative, associative, identity, inverse, zero product, and distributive.
Groups of students get a set of cards with the different words used to create the names of the properties. The teacher presents an example of a property. The students must hold a word and line themselves up to create the correct name. Points can be awarded fo
Need an easy way to track student mastery? Want students to take ownership of their learning journey? This sheet lists each standard for the Virginia Math 8 SOL (2023) with boxes for you or students to mark off as mastery is proven. Some of the standards have many subparts, and I listed them as one topic to master. When a student demonstrates mastery of one of the SOLs, you can put your signature or a sticker in the "I'm Ready" slot. There are also 4 spots for students to put stickers that indi
This is what I call a "fun sheet" instead of a worksheet. The riddle is the title of the sheet and the answers to the problems create the answer.
This worksheet contains two-step equations, equations with the distributive property, and equations that require combining like terms.

Then I got married and moved to Virginia, where I taught 7th/8th grade mathematics (pre-algebra) for 12 years in and out of a collaborative model. I then taught 6th grade math virtually. Teaching style
I prefer hands-on, discovery learning with lots of discussion, activity, and analysis. I'm a big fan of Jo Boaler and standards-based grading, so I prefer collaboration over lectures.
Awards & shining teacher moments
My principal has honored me with the Starfish Award for going above and beyond my duties.
I have also been awarded Teacher of The Week by current and former students.
My own education history
I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. I am certified to teach grades 4-8 in math and science in Texas, grades 6-8 mathematics/science and Algebra in Virginia and Tennessee, and I hold a Master of Education in School Leadership.
Additional biographical information
I have led professional development on creating a positive relationship with middle school students. I also created the activities and worksheets we used in our 7th/8th grade math curriculum. As a math interventionist, I use small groups and collaboration to address learning gaps and misunderstandings.
