I use this PowerPoint as bell work (bell ringer) in my 6th grade science classroom. Each day, the students are given a different question, i.e. slide 1 on Monday and slide 2 on Tuesday. They write down both the question and answer in their science notebooks. This bell work covers the following content: observations, inferences, measuring, steps of the scientific method and variables.
This CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) Unit has Kindergarteners helping their friend Jenny find her missing stuffed animal. They need to help Jenny eliminate places in which she might have left her stuffed animal bunny name Flopper. They sort and put events in order by number. They research about bunnies: where they live, what their footprints look like, what they eat, etc. They look at pictures for clues of Flopper being there. This is a 20 page visual glossary for all sixth grade science vocabulary terms. I also teach an honors course so some seventh grade terms are in the glossary as well. It's a great dictionary and visual resource for the students to use in the classroom.
In this lab, students will use a roll of toilet paper to compare the distances between different planets and the distance from various planets to the Sun.
In this lab, students will test the affect of water on black felt ink. They will use their observations to compare and analyze different brands of felt pens.
Students will identify the three types of variables used in an experiment. Then, they will examine different statements to determine what would be the independent and dependent variables to prove that statement correct or false.
In this quiz students analyze statements, tables and pictures to make various observations and inferences. It's a great review assessment for students who are struggling to see the difference between observations and inferences.

Basic Principles, General Science, Other (Science)
Students will learn how to make inferences based on background knowledge and observations. They will practice making inferences with two pictures, a boiling pot of water and two cylinders of water.
In this lab, students will use "measure" the mass of atomic particles using a paper clip, sand, clay and/or water. This will show the students how the mass of an electron compares to the masses of protons and neutrons.
Students use their knowledge of matter, force and even acceleration to design the perfect bungee jump cord for their action figure. This lab allows students to practice writing the scientific method and using problem solving and critical thinking skills.

This PowerPoint, if you purchase it, will be more of a template for your own transition lab. In this PowerPoint, I have the students practice transitioning from one task to another. We make hypotheses, record the materials, write the steps, identify the variables, write the data and make a conclusion.
