In this activity, students examine different historians' beliefs and recordings about Robin Hood. Each historian believes a different individual to be the one whose life is portrayed through the songs, ballads and tales of Robin Hood. I use this PowerPoint as bell work (bell ringer) in my 6th grade science classroom. Each day, the students are given a different question, i.e. slide 1 on Monday and slide 2 on Tuesday. They write down both the question and answer in their science notebooks. This bell work covers the following content: observations, inferences, measuring, steps of the scientific method and variables.

In this activity, students are told that there is a zombie apocalypse going on and they need to map their escape route to one of the three safe camps. They will need to use their survival skills and geographical skills to determine what states, cities, features etc. are safest to pass through. They will use various thematic, political and physical maps to plan their route. On the back, they will provide the coordinates for each pit stop and an explanation as to why they chose to stop there.

Using atlases, my students will engage in an "Amazing Race" themed game. They will run to different pit stops, around the playground, labeled by yellow numbered envelopes. Students will look at pictures and descriptions of Mesoamerican artifacts housed at various museums in Mexico. This is a great lesson because it reminds students about archaeologists and artifacts. It also helps students to understand how it is that we know about the lives of Ancient Mesoamericans. Lastly, it's a great pre-unit lesson because students can gain a small insight into Mesoamericans before actually learning about them.
