This is my twelfth year teaching with the past six years in third grade. This year begins my first year teaching fifth grade and I'm excited about adding new items appropriate for the new grade level to my store.
This file contains three reading comprehension passages. One for each of the three levels of government. The local and state passages focus on government in the state of Georgia. All three branches of government are included in each of the three passages. Multiple choice questions follow each passage. The questions are related to the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government and focus on the jobs and responsibilities of each one.
This packet includes ten science reading comprehensions that address the topics taught in the third grade common core standards. The scientific method, rocks & minerals, fossils, heat, magnets, plant & animal adaptations, habitats & regions of GA, and pollution & conservation are all included. These can be used as a review, an introduction, or an assessment.
This reading comprehension passage focuses on the five regions of Georgia. The mountains, the piedmont, the coastal plains, the wetlands, and the Atlantic Ocean are addressed. The passage is followed by ten multiple choice questions related to the text. Animals and plants native to each region are discussed as well as the location of each area.
This reading comprehension is all about magnets. The passage explains poles, magnetic fields, and different uses for magnets. Vocabulary words such as attract, repel, and magnetic are also mentioned. Ten multiple choice questions follow the passage.
This reading comprehension passage teaches the student about the four main types of resources – human, capital, natural, and entrepreneurship. Needs versus wants are also discussed as well as goods and services. The passage is followed by multiple choice questions that will test the comprehension of the reader.
This activity asks the students to cut and paste differences between the North and South before the Civil War began under the correct heading. These differences include feelings about slavery, feelings towards the government, the economies of the north and south, ect. These differences drove the north and south further apart and eventually led to the Civil War. This activity can be used as a review or as a mini assessment.
This activity involves coloring, cutting, and pasting. There are three Christmas trees each labeled with a star for the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government. Their ornaments are missing and the students will need to glue the appropriate ornaments to each Christmas tree in order to complete the project. Each ornament contains a brief description of the person(s) in charge, where they work, and jobs or responsibilities for each of the three branches.
This packet combines all of my packets concerning the nine American Heroes that we learn about in third grade: Paul Revere, Susan B. Anthony, Mary McLeod Bethune, Frederick Douglas, Thurgood Marshall, Franklin Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Cesar Chavez. This fraction study guide and assessment is aligned with the 3rd grade common core standards. The students are asked to compare fractions, represent fractions on a number line, and write fractions based on a picture representation. Students are also asked to answer questions that prove their understanding that the size of a fractional part is relative to the size of the whole. This reading comprehension passage teaches the student about different plant and animal adaptations. Students read about different types of adaptations and learn some interesting facts. The passage is followed by multiple choice questions that will test the comprehension of the reader. This can be used as a review or quick & easy assessment.

This thinking map focuses on the three types of communities. Students learn about urban, suburban, and rural areas. Students cut out nine squares. Each square contains a picture and a brief description. Those squares are then pasted into the correct location on the tree map. For example, one square is labeled “farm land” and that square would be placed under “rural area” on the tree map. This activity could be used as a review or assessment.
