Periodic Table of Elements Bulletin Board/Trading Cards

Enclosed are cards of all 118 elements in the periodic table. Each card has atomic number, atomic weight, symbol and full name. You can use these individually in games as trading cards or in "Guess my Element," or put them together to make a beautiful bulletin board. I made each group individual pages so you can print them more easily on your desired colored card stock. If you plan on using them again in the future, I highly recommend laminating them for durability. Attached is the picture

This is a fun little one (or two) page document that shows all the accommodations and modifications that your IEP or 504 students may need. With over 100 students to keep track of, I've found this paper to be invaluable in my planning and teaching. Included is a MS Word document with columns that list common modifications and accommodations that holds up to 16 students per page. The rows are alternately shaded to make it easy to differentiate one student from another. However, you can edit t

This is a pdf of a ladder I created using the question prompt terms from my flip charts. I have it hung in my room in a prominent place so kids can refer to it when generating questions for research projects or other class activities. I have found that when my kids are able to write questions at the upper levels of the ladder, they can demonstrate a deeper understanding of the material we study. Having them start at the bottom and work their way up ("Climbing the question ladder") helps them

Colored Grade Sheets Grade Book

For years I've maintained a simple grid grade book, but often had trouble writing the wrong grade in a block because my eyes got dizzy from the black and white stripes. To help mitigate this (and to make it look fun!), I created a colored stripe grade book. The main column on the left is different for each class so I can tell them apart, as well as by using the title. Then each assignment column is different to help separate one assignment from another. It's a simple idea, but has made recor

These are simple, easy to follow instructions that I hand out to my middle schoolers every year. One of their greatest anxieties in the first few weeks of school is getting into their lockers. Providing them with these individual directions has really helped quell some of those fears and anxieties.

How to Write A Lab Report Flip Chart

This flip chart is designed to go along with my more formal Lab Report Template (see other listing) as an easy reference or reminder guide. However, it is still useful as a reference tool for any scientific lab report. The laminated flip book has six different tabs corresponding to elements in the lab report: General Formatting, Purpose/Hypothesis, Materials, Procedure, Data, Conclusion. On each tab there is a checklist of items that students need to ensure they include and do correctly. I u

Anyone who wants their kids to generate "thick" questions uses Bloom's Taxonomy as a guide to show students how to move from simple to complex. This is a handy little flip chart template that has two different versions. The first version has just words that you find in questions from each level (ie. Remembering: cite, define, identify, label, etc.) The second version gives the beginning of questions for those students that need a little more direction/help generating thick questions.

Included in this complete package you will find: Student Glossary Booklet - including over 200 words, any Latin or Greek prefixes or root words and their meanings, a place for the definition and a place for using that word in a sentence or drawing a picture. I've left this in .docx format so you can add/remove words as you see fit. Modified Student Glossary Booklet - where the definition is given, but students are still required to put that word into a sentence or draw a picture to show that

The physical science vocabulary words are broken down by unit on the very first page, and then written in attractive but legible fonts in large print, one or two to a page. Often the fonts give clues to the meanings of the word. For example, Oxidizing is written in a rusty font. They are intended to be printed out on colored cardstock for a word wall. While you don't have to, I have found it really helpful to laminate them and put magnet tape on the back and stick them to my magnetic dry era

I've tried to include everything I use as well as others I think might be common in other classrooms. You'll find everything from pens and pencils, to spoons, trays and cords & cables. I print them out on heavy card stock then laminate them so they last longer. However, you can print them out on a full sheet of label paper and cut them out so they keep their cute rounded shape. I

I use these as rewards for when kids fill up their Brain Genius card with stamps (see my store for stamp card). It has a bunch of fun choices including a free pencil, sitting in my chair, bonus points on a test, a special experiment (I teach science), and so on. Once you type in your prizes, print them out and cut them with a paper cutter. I find the business cards are too see-through and white cardstock is necessary to avoid cheaters :) I buy scratch-off circle labels from ebay, but there

Experience

I am currently working on my 8th full year of teaching middle school. I started my career in high school biology and loved it, but when I moved I was unable to find a high school job. I figured I'd "suffer" through one year of teaching middle school...and never left! I fell into a path that I may not have otherwise chosen, but am so glad I did. Middle schoolers scare some people, but those lucky enough to work with them really do see their value.

Teaching style

Given the age group of kids that I teach, I need to hit a lot of highly academic content, but also need to keep it fresh so they don't get bored. I use a ton of technology in my classroom and do a lot of discovery and hands-on learning. Science is great for that! My mantra for classroom management is "An organized classroom is a learning classroom." Although my lessons can be busy, I can't live in chaos. Everything has to be organized and color coded. My expectations and procedures for my class have substantially improved the success of my lessons. When students understand what they are expected to do, can find their resources and know when and how to ask for help, they are able to learn more effectively.
