Solfege Worksheet
It always seems like my students know how to sing a scale in Solfege, but after that, they really don't seem to have much of a sense of how to use it. I designed this worksheet to teach them that those syllables have a name: Solfege, and I wanted them to have a way to apply the Solfege syllables to an actual melody. At the end, there is an optional Melodic Dictation Assessment, which can be used a lot of different ways.

Pirates of Penzance Guided Listening Worksheet
Pirates of Penzance is one of my favorite operettas to use when teaching my students about opera! The songs use bel canto technique, but there is a lot of talking in it still so the kids can follow along with the plot.

Music History for kids
This is a PowerPoint presentation that I made to sort of outline the basics of the five periods of music history that I decided to focus on in my classroom:
1. Gregorian Chant

Key Signatures, Solfege in G-Major, Moveable Do Explanation Introduction
Explaining to my students what a Key Signature is and why we need it, and why the F has to be sharp in the Key of G has always been something that I've had trouble explaining without using a lot of visual aids and going through the thought process of why a note would have to stay sharp in order to make the G-Major scale sound correct.
Mostly, I want my students to come away with an understanding of why F is sharp in the key of G without overwhelming them in the details of whole and half steps

This is a PowerPoint Presentation that starts with a review of the instruments of the orchestra. It discusses what instruments are in the Instrument Families and how each Instrument Family makes sound.

Nutcracker Story Book in Power Point
I wanted to read my students the story of The Nutcracker, so I put together this Power Point Presentation with Clip art, and photographs that I found online to illustrate different parts of the story.
I loved that, since it was a projected image on a Smart Board, rather than a book, I could have the older students take turns reading it, while the rest of the class read along, rather than reading it or explaining the story myself. Vocal rest is a beautiful thing when you're teaching!

Rhythm worksheet - Quarter, Paired Eighth, and Half notes - Good for SUBS!!
This is a very basic and rudimentary worksheet that can be done to either instruct or asses rhythms of quarter notes, pairs of eighth notes, and half notes. I designed it to be simple for anyone to follow - including a substitute teacher. The first page asks students to trace notes within a graphic organizer. Written Test and Review on the Instruments of the Orchestra
I created a test in the first slide of this Power Point Presentation.
(I put it in the first slide so you could see the thumbnails of both sides of the test on this website, but when you actually give the test, you would have to move those two slides down to the bottom of the PowerPoint Presentation.)
There is a review of the questions on the test, and on the back side of the Instrument Test, there is a written assessment that you can use as a Assessment or Pre-Assessment for reading the note

Native American Musical Informance - Virginia Social Studies Curriculum
This is a set of 6 original songs and 22 speaking parts that enhance the 2nd Grade Social Studies Unit on Native Americans in Virginia. The songs are about the Powhatans, Lakota, and Pueblo tribes. This packet includes: Notes to the teacher(s) who are directing the performance.The scores of 6 songs (and one that has choreography written into it.) Grade Book and Seating Chart on ONE page, designed by a music specialist
As a specialist, it's essential to keep records as concise and easy to find as possible! We teach so many students, and have so many kids to keep records for, it's impossible to do so well without a consistent system in place. I devised the graphic organizer here to have the 4-row seating chart and grade book all on one page. There are options for 32, 28, and 24 students in rows, as well as 24 or 28 students seated in a circle formation. I included music-related subjects in the first 6 slides

This is a music math factor tree that focuses on beat values, starting with whole notes, going all the way to 16th notes. There is also a place at the bottom that discusses the uses of dots in rhythms. On the other side, there is a graphic organizer where students fill out the values of the notes. December Songs and Poems
This is a collection of Songs and Poems for very young children about December, Winter and Snow. A lot of them are songs with lyrics that are set to familiar kids' songs (like Up on the Housetop, and I'm a Little Tea Pot). I tried to alternate between a song and a poem, though this didn't always work.
I found a lot of these on the internet, I wrote some of them myself, and some of them were written with the help of my students in my own General Music Classroom.

Opera History Crossword Puzzle - Perfect for Substitute Plans!!
I created this crossword puzzle to go along with my unit on Opera History. It comes with a word bank, so it's not only easier to figure out but the sub doesn't have to know what the clues are in order for the students to be able to do it without their regular music teacher! Nutcracker Listening Maps and Choreography
These are a series of dances that are choreographed for children aged Pre-K - 6th grade, set to four pieces from The Nutcracker Suite.
There are graphic representations for the dance moves to make it easy to follow, as well as for the formations if necessary.
There are three Listening Maps as well. Chinese Tea doesn't have a listening map - just pictures of the instruments the students are supposed to be listening for as they dance.

I've been teaching public school for 10 years, and private for 1 year.
Teaching style
Strongest in incorporating music literacy into games and activities for grades 1-3, so that children are learning to read notes on the staff long before they begin having to read music to play a musical instrument.
I love making sure that my students in grades 4-6 have a chance to use Chord Progressions and fully understand Time Signatures.
I also start teaching sight singing in first grade so that by the time they start chorus, they have at least started to understand the basics of melodic contour, if not the ability to read entire phrases by sight.
