I have worked for a school district for over 20 years in various positions,including administrative assistant for curriculum and Title I and office manager of a large elementary school. I have a Masters in Teaching degree from Southern Oregon University. I have been teaching for 10 years. I recently acquired the position of TOSA for technology/math/science at the elementary level.

Math Role-Playing Game (Trip Planners): Travel Cards 1-20
Trip Planners is a role-playing game that integrates math, geography, and writing. Students begin with a folder that includes an expense ledger, spiral notebook for journal writing, laminated United States road map, and a United States road atlas. Using the laminated road map, students plan a cross-country road trip. Next, students begin with $5,000 in their expense ledger. Students randomly choose a travel card. This is a fun hands-on math projects that integrates Language Arts figurative language and writing. Students measure a candy bar (miniature bars are more manageable)using centimeters. Reinforces ratio skills. Teachers may have all students use the same ratio, or have kids randomly draw numbers. After completion, students write a commercial and present it to the class. Character Report Card - Characterization
This is a fun way to teach characterization while increasing vocabulary! Review vocabulary words on the character's report card. Have students choose a character from a book, or the teacher could select the character. Have students grade the character on each vocabulary word.
