In this activity, students will compare the cell processes photosynthesis and respiration. They will cut and paste the correct description onto their Venn diagram.
6.L.1.2 One of the most general distinctions among organisms is between plants, which use sunlight to make their own food (photosynthesis) and animals, which consume energy-rich foods. Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are complementary processes. Plants carry on photosynthesis and cellular respiration where food is broken dow
Earth is like an apple...
This activity is designed to help students comprehend and compare the layers of the earth. This activity is typically used as an introduction to the unit on the lithosphere. I usually perform a live demonstration of cutting the apple in half so the class can visualize the layers inside and compare this to the unseen layers of the earth. The students then work with the table partners to complete the written analogy.
6.E.2 Understand the structure of the earth and

Phycis Changes || States of Matter CUT & Sort
This activity is designed to help students understand molecular behavior during the different states of matter. Students should Cut out along the dashed lines and then
sort the illustrations into solid, liquid and gas. Then the student will identify each phase at the molecular level using the molecular illustrations.
6.P.2 Understand the structure, classifications and physical properties of matter.

Over 25 slides with well organized information! Just print out the student guided notes and make copies and you’re ALL SET! 6.E.2.1 Summarize the structure of the earth, including the layer
Study Guide Stations activity prepares students for the Unit Test on the following standards: 6.P.2.1 Recognize that all matter is made up of atoms and atoms of the same element are all alike, but are different from the atoms of other elements. 6.P.2.2 Explain the effect of heat on the motion of atoms through a description of what happens to particles during a change in phase. 6.P.2.3 Compare the physical properties of pure substances that are independent of the amount of matter present includin
This 10 day set of lesson plans is designed to administer a personalized, self-paced individualized series of activities centering on North Carolina’s essential standard: 6.E.2.2 Explain how crustal plates and ocean basins are formed, move and interact using earthquakes, heat flow and volcanoes to reflect forces within the earth. The activities are listed in a Playlist” hyperdoc. A hyperdoc is an electronic document that provides links to required activities making transitions between the hyp
How to make a graph! This activity is designed to help students understand howto read and create a graph with step by step instructions. It uses the website CREATE A GRAPH to scaffold the assignment for core or remedial instruction on graph creation and interpretation. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6-8.1 - Cite specific textual evidence to support analysis of science and technical texts. NGSS Standards addressed: Construct, analyze, and/or interpret graphical displays of data and/or large data sets t

This lesson is set up to review the following standard:
6.NS Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions.
This is part of a series of lessons reflecting areas where students and teachers should spend a large majority of their time in order to meet the expectations of the Standards. It may also be helpful as a review. The power point is helpful because it visually displaces the meta cognition behind the word problem and purposefully
Students will create a flower using a variety of materials. The materials should represent different parts of the flower. They will need to be creative and use different materials to represent the different parts of the flower. Students must create and label the following parts of a flowering plant. I use this a test grade so I've included a rubric.
Roots, stem, leaves, sepals, petals, pistil, ovary, stigma, style, ovules, stamen, filament, anther and pollen.
This activity is designed to help students understand how physical properties help scientists determine the identity of an unknown substance. It is a hands-on laboratory experiment that uses typical household products to determine the identity of two mystery powders. 6.P.2.3 NC Essential Science Standards - I can identify the a physical property of a substance using solubility, density, melting point, boiling point, and freezing point.
Earth in the Universe || Interactive Notebook ActivityIn this activity students will create a model of the earth’s layers of the atmosphere. Students will then have a visual model in their interactive notebook to use as reference. Students will follow the directions to discover the difference between rotation and revolution. A class discussion (included as bonus) is used to reinforce student learning how the position of the Earth around the sun causes the seasonal changes to places above the
Layers of the Earth || Notebook Dividers with Assessment
This notebook organizer is designed to help students organize their notes and activities surrounding the layers of the earth. This activity is used organize the unit on the lithosphere. It should be printed on colored paper and glued on either side of one page in their notebook. The outer edge becomes a notebook “tab” to mark the starting point in their notebook of this unit. Want to create your own notebook dividers? I’ve included an edit
Using the Compare & Contrast strategy in this lesson plan allows students to see similarities and differences in rate problems which has been proven to be the single MOST effective way to raise achievement Robert Marzano, Debra Pickering, and Jane Pollock (2001). This strategy evokes human’s nature ability to make comparisons. By implementing this strategy you lead students through the process by
