Students will solve a real world math problem by helping a store owner purchase t-shirts for the best price. Students will have to discover the constant (k) (price of 1 shirt) when given equivalent ratios of cost to quantity sale prices. Students will also have to create proportional equations that represent the cost of each t-shirts. Furthermore, students will have to find the constant from a graph, and input values into a table of values that represents the price of t-shirts for differen

Students will have a fun time visiting Marty’s Arcade. In this engaging task, students will write a real world math problem that represents a given equation, explain what the variable of an equation represents within the context of the problem, solve equations, explain how they solved different equations, and compare rates. This task can be used as an activity and/or assessment. It is great for formal or informal observations.

This task can be used as an activity and/or assessment. It is great for formal or informal observations. Before this task is given students should be familiar with creating linear equations from a table of values, graph and description. Students should also be familiar with finding the slope formula. In this task, students will have to determine the rate of change and initial value of 3 different taxi companies to discover which company will provide the best deal in different situations. The c

Students will solve real world and mathematical problems by creating equations based on an online fruit basket business. Students will also substitute a given value for the variable within the created equation to check if the solution makes sense. Furthermore, students will a have to explain how they solved several problems, and the strategies they took to solve them. This task can be used as an activity and/or assessment. It is great for formal or informal observations.

In this challenging task, students will solve real world math problems by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. Students will have to create equations that represent the depth of a submarine and compute the time it takes for the submarine to descend and rise to the surface. Students will also have to explain what integer best describes the elevation and direction of the submarine. Lastly, students will have to create a real world scenario based on an equation of integers.

This task can be used as an activity and/or assessment. It is great for formal or informal observations. Before this task is given students should be familiar with the concept of Pythagorean Theorem because they will use the formula to help police solve an art theft at Dustin’s Art Gallery. The problem with most Pythagorean Theorem tasks is that students are told to use the theorem and therefore lacks any challenge. The beauty of this task is that Pythagorean Theorem is never mentioned througho

Experience

I am a middle school teacher for the city of New York. I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade Math, English, Science & Social Studies. I have been educating since 2005. While in the classroom, I have coached both students and teachers.

Teaching style

As a teacher, my goal is to make learning FUN! I provide children with strategies on how to learn so they can comprehend what is being taught. I instill knowledge that each child needs in order to be successful. I enjoy small group instruction and creating tiered tasks. There is nothing better than seeing the light bulbs of your students go off. The goal of my tasks is to create engaging activities that challenge students to think and apply academic concepts that inevitably produce open discourse amongst the students.
