About the store
I have been a classroom teacher at a small, rural high school in Ontario, Canada for the past 13 years. I am also currently the department head of English/Literacy, and have also held the title of department head of Special Education. My teaching practice has included grades 7-12, in the Academic (University prep), Applied(College prep) and Local (Workplace prep) streams. I have mainly taught English courses, however have also occasionally taught History, Civics, Art and Government. Recently, I have also expanded my practice to e-learning and have taught multiple courses via this platform. Another interest of mine is writing and/or editing curriculum or units for my local school board, which is often a summer opportunity I pursue.

Teaching style

I aim to create classroom materials that are based on the application of diagnostic assessment to gauge student starting points, formative assessment to enhance student learning and gain feedback as a teacher, assessment as the student is learning to ensure learning is taking place and then finally evaluative assessment. My teaching style is inquiry based, student centered and attempts to focus on student engagement, especially through the use of 'hot topics' and technology.

My own education history

My qualifications include the following: Honors B.A. English/History; B.Ed. Intermediate/Secondary - English/History; Special Education Part 1; Honors Specialist: History; Literacy Department Head

Additional biographical information

I am a married mother of 3, and enjoy quiet country living on our family farm. My family is also deeply engaged in attempting to reduce our ecological footprint by living off the land as much as possible. We have our own chickens, rabbits, a large garden and we are active fishers and hunters.
