About the store
I have been a classroom teacher at a small, rural high school in Ontario, Canada for the past 13 years. I am also currently the department head of English/Literacy, and have also held the title of department head of Special Education. My teaching practice has included grades 7-12, in the Academic (University prep), Applied(College prep) and Local (Workplace prep) streams. I have mainly taught English courses, however have also occasionally taught History, Civics, Art and Government. Recently, I have also expanded my practice to e-learning and have taught multiple courses via this platform. Another interest of mine is writing and/or editing curriculum or units for my local school board, which is often a summer opportunity I pursue.

This is a collection of resources that would support a unit with a focus text of the short story, "On the Sidewalk, Bleeding". Rant like Rick Mercer!
This is a unit suitable for grades 7-12 students, which uses the work of Canadian comedian, Rick Mercer as a basis for study and a writing/performance style to emulate. It is a fantastic multi disciplined unit that focused on the skills of identifying and using literary devices, applying the writing process, learning about the writing genre of a 'rant' and writing about it, as well as performing the rant in a class contest at the end of the unit. Learning Strategies Stress Management Unit
A Unit to support special education students with stress management in a learning strategies classroom. Activities include: active reading, reflective questions, handouts to support stress busting activities, a stress journal chart and a culminating activity with a rubric. Digital Storytelling: Tell Your Story!
Who doesn't want to tell their story? This is a unit study on the emerging genre of "digital storytelling". Students learn about the genre, analyze digital stories, including Kobe Bryant's famous "Dear Basketball". They then work through the creative process at writing and producing their own digital story. The culmination of the unit is a film festival where students get to showcase their work (as well as submit it for grading via the assignment rubric).

Reality TV Media Unit
This Unit challenges students to examine the genre of Reality Television. As a culminating activity, students are asked to brainstorm, pitch and create a trailer for their own Reality Television program. An Essential 21st Century Skill: Crafting and Maintaining a Digital Footprint
This short unit focuses on an essential 21st century for students: digital footprints. Throughout the unit, students will be introduced to the concept of the digital footprint, guided through an evaluation and analysis of their current digital footprint and learn how to craft and maintain a evolved version of their footprint. OSSLT Online Practice Test Response Form 2021
This is a Google Form that replicates EQAO's new online practice test (2021). The purpose of the form is that students use it as they respond to the practice test questions, so they can receive feedback on their results (after teachers mark the PEEL paragraph and Opinion Piece questions). Teaching style
I aim to create classroom materials that are based on the application of diagnostic assessment to gauge student starting points, formative assessment to enhance student learning and gain feedback as a teacher, assessment as the student is learning to ensure learning is taking place and then finally evaluative assessment.
My teaching style is inquiry based, student centered and attempts to focus on student engagement, especially through the use of 'hot topics' and technology.

Additional biographical information
I am a married mother of 3, and enjoy quiet country living on our family farm. My family is also deeply engaged in attempting to reduce our ecological footprint by living off the land as much as possible. We have our own chickens, rabbits, a large garden and we are active fishers and hunters.
