Phase Changes in Poetry

This powerpoint presentation includes poems, such as Carl Sandburg's "Fog" and Emerson's "The Snow Storm", with illustrations of the weather referenced in the poem. This is a great way to review the phase changes! The students enjoy the literature - which they sometimes recognize from English class! - and describe the phase changes in chemical terms - attractive forces, energy change, beginning and ending state of matter - at the level of detail appropriate for the grade and course. Teaching style

I encourage students to build upon previous knowledge and gain new knowledge. I incorporate many activities and labs to involve the students in the practical application of the material, and I am using an increasing number of foldables to review and reinforce key concepts. I have found that students learn very differently, but all can grasp even difficult concepts when given the opportunity. I enjoy finding a variety of ways to present these concepts and learning how to match them to the students I am teaching!
