I've been teaching for 13 years in a variety of schools throughout Texas and Oregon. My heart is really in Kindergarten - I've taught Kinder for 10 years now and could not imagine myself anywhere else!
This center combines identifying initial sounds, sounding out words and finding the matching picture. Students have an alphabet chart, which they may or may not need to refer to. They look at the picture clues and identify the initial sounds and letters of each word. They put the letter that each picture starts with underneath until they have spelled out a word. Then they sound out the word and identify the picture. On the back of my picture, I wrote the word so that they can check their answers

This center allows students to practice rhyming words by matching the missing picture to the task card. Students can then flip the card over to check their answer, allowing for instant feedback!
To prep: print, laminate and cut out the cards and answers. Be sure to print double sided so that the answers will print on the back of the task cards. Be sure not to print the answer pieces two sided! Optional: put velcro on the blank spaces and the back of the answer picture cards.

Snag this fun freebie to practice identifying long vowel sounds with a fun summer theme!
Students either use a clear overlay spinner or a pencil and paper clip and place over the sun to spin. Then they find the matching CVCe word, read it out loud, and cover with a manipulative (I personally love the Target dollar spot erasers for this!).
All these pictures are CVCe words that can be found in my Mystery Words CVCe pack, so if you have those, students will easily be able to recall the same word

Magnifying glasses are so fun to use and this center combines a fun summer scene with hunting for words and sorting them based on their vowel sound. All the words are CVCe words and I tried to keep them to a summer vacation theme, as best I could!
Easily differentiate for your students – have them find the words and sort them based on vowel sounds, or have them take it one step further and write a sentence with a word they found. Students are sure to love this center!

My students are currently working on subtraction and I am always looking for fun ways for them to practice the skill. I got some shape punches from the Target dollar section recently and realized they could punch out the shape, glue them to match the number, then subtract by crossing out the matching number and write the answer. This will help them gain beneficial fine motor practice, coordination, plus good ol' count and match the number time.
If you don’t have shape punches, you can always us
