Valentines Sort for Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten or First Grade

This is a fun page for students to sort, count, then graph their Valentine's conversation hearts. I like the idea of multiple directions on one sheet: students get to sort, count, I encourage my students to write their numbers in the circles, and then graph their heart colors in the boxes above. They color in one box for each candy heart. My students loved this activity last year! They were able to do it independently, once I explained that they start at the bottom, and work their way up. I

Old Black Fly Page to Make a Class Book

After reading Old Black Fly, or watching the YouTube video from The Itsy Bitsy Reader, http://bit.ly/3uCahHw, HERE, make a class book of all of the places where a fly could land. Print one page for each student in your class. Students draw their picture and write where their fly lands, either with guidance and support. Then, staple them into a book! Kids love to re-read familiar text! Great sight word practice, comprehension, reading left to right, and top to bottom.

Students can complete this page independently: it has icons to show they are to write the word, then color the word, and finally, cut and paste it. The benefits of my 'love' page is that students cut the bottom off before pasting their letters to make the word - love. It is super-cute with a hea

Tricky Letters

Tricky letters are letters that are easily confused by beginning readers. They are confusing because they can be flipped and look like the other letter, they sound like the beginning sound of the other letter's name or the sounds are similar. Review letter names and sounds along with easily confused letters to help scholars keep these separate in their minds. This is appropriate after students have learned most of the letters in the alphabet. I keep this on my whiteboard, so students can r
