A collaborative research project that focuses on Science and Social Studies standards. Students will work together on research teams to learn about South Carolina geographic regions and the animals that live in those regions. Teams will then pick an animal from SC, research it to find out what region it lives in, characteristics of the animal and its classification. The Kissing Hand is a big part of this unit. It has a reading lesson, centers and a school tour based off of the story. Also in this unit is a Wheels on the Bus math activity, back to school songs and poems, one of which is a finger puppet poem and other fun things. -
This is a collaborative, cross-curricular unit in math, writing, science and social studies. In math money, measurement, data collection and addition concepts are practiced. In writing students will write an informative/explanatory piece convincing a buyer to buy his house. In social studies after urban, rural and suburban communities have been introduced, the student will decide what area his house is located in and mention it in his writing. In science concepts about wind can be talked about.

This plan focuses on students setting reward goals for themselves. The rewards are based on an amount of good behavior tickets a student can earn throughout the week. Tickets are never taken away for behavior issues and unused tickets can rollover into the next week to be used for the bigger rewards. Other consequences come into play when bad behavior occurs. The main consequence is a homework writing assignment a student must do with his parents.
