When I first started teaching scale factor to 7th graders, I wanted to pull my hair out because I really couldn't find this skill in our textbooks. This year I decided I was going to just create my own. This lesson has 66 slides and can be taught over a week. You could generate some homework worksheets from the slides. When I taught 7th grade math, this skill was all over common core. I developed a detailed lesson on word problems, graphing, and tables of directly proportional relationships. It was difficult for my kids to find the equation from a graph when the intervals are messed up. I have two homework assignments that mix up the intervals. For some reason, making a Box and Whisker Plot is hard for my students. I narrowed all Box and Whisker Plots down into 4 categories based on how many numbers in a data set. I have made countless animations that make the word problems come alive for students. What I do is, erase all answers and make a notes packet for my students. This lesson is designed to have the students in cooperative groups and answer state standard style questions. I loved walking around and seeing the kids actively working together and arguing their answers. I tried to do this in one day, but it would have been better as a two day lesson. I know we are going away from this with common core, but I don't think multiple choice will ever go away because it is the most un-biased way of assessing what kids know. The hardest standard to teach in 7th grade is linear versus non-linear relationships. All we do is touch the surface of linear relationships and don't even apply non linear relationships in any other standard. I narrowed this down to a system of checking if a relationship is linear, directly proportional, inversely proportional, and non linear. This helped my test scores last year.

When to flip an inequality, is a really hard concept for students. They never get it. I made this powerpoint for a final ditch effort to explain it to 7th graders.
