Scale Factor, Area and Volume Relationship

When I first started teaching scale factor to 7th graders, I wanted to pull my hair out because I really couldn't find this skill in our textbooks. This year I decided I was going to just create my own. This lesson has 66 slides and can be taught over a week. You could generate some homework worksheets from the slides. It explains this hard concept in grave detail. If you want to print and teach, this is your product. I used it in my own class; so, it is classroom approved.

Directly Proportional Relationships Notes and Homework

When I taught 7th grade math, this skill was all over common core. I developed a detailed lesson on word problems, graphing, and tables of directly proportional relationships. It was difficult for my kids to find the equation from a graph when the intervals are messed up. I have two homework assignments that mix up the intervals. Again, this is a classroom tested and approved lesson by myself.

Setting Up more Complex Equations from word problems

This is updated with the most current types of questions on the 7th grade TCAPs. This lesson is more than just clicking answers off the powerpoint. I have made countless animations that make the word problems come alive for students. What I do is, erase all answers and make a notes packet for my students. You can trust that this is a class approved lesson.

Introduction to Linearity and function rules

When I taught the under achieving class function rules, it was hard for them to come up with that rule. In this powerpoint, I have got writing a rule down to a simple science. If you want to help those struggling students, this product is perfect for you.

Slope as a Unit rate

Teaching Slope as a unit rate doesn't have many options for powerpoints that you search in google. I made this to accompany things I found from google. It treats slope as a unit rate of a directly proportional relationship.

Writing Equations from word problems multiple choice cure

I taught my heart out during this unit. However, I had to create something to help students use a multiple choice test against itself and how to choose the correct multiple choice answer. I know we are going away from this with common core, but I don't think multiple choice will ever go away because it is the most un-biased way of assessing what kids know. If you want to increase achievement, then use this resource as standardized test review as you get closer to the big test at the end of the
Preview of Linear versus Non-linear Relationships

Linear versus Non-linear Relationships

The hardest standard to teach in 7th grade is linear versus non-linear relationships. All we do is touch the surface of linear relationships and don't even apply non linear relationships in any other standard. I narrowed this down to a system of checking if a relationship is linear, directly proportional, inversely proportional, and non linear. This helped my test scores last year.

Experience

I have been teaching math for 10 years. Throughout those 10 years, I have taught 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade, and Algebra 1. 8th grade and Algebra 1 are my specialties. I love teaching math and have maintained great test scores.

Teaching style

I would say that I truly care if students enjoy my class. I do group work, partner work, peer tutoring, online activities, foldables, and plenty of dry erase practice. My lessons are mostly powerpoints that I have worked on and perfected over the years. My lessons are designed to be user friendly and kids love my class.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I'm more of a "behind the scenes type person." I don't need awards to prove that I am a good teacher. I would rather share every lesson I have and no recognition.

My own education history

I am an Honors Graduate of Emory and Henry College, in Emory, Virginia.

Additional biographical information

I've always wanted to be a math teacher. I had a ninth grade math teacher that changed my life and made me care about school. Since 9th grade, I wanted to provide students with the same experience I had with a great teacher.
