The Standards-Based Classroom

Do your students struggle to see how math is applicable in the real world?  In this open-ended project, students are challenged to research a topic of interest to them and identify some related mathematical elements.  Students use countable/measurable data to share their topic with peers. Through loosely guided research and teacher coaching, students must use critical thinking to find the math in the topics they love. This is a great ‘getting to know you’ project for math class.
