To help spice up the practice of estimating products, I've created some color-by-number sheets for my students. I like to come up with stupid little pictures because they can't predict the final picture. If you'd like, you could use your own coloring sheet and just add my numbers.
Not only is it just a few problems, but it provides an answer bank, which motivates the students to keep trying and correct their errors. This allows for independent and station work.

Soon, I'm starting my Superhero Battle Game, so I wanted an introduction of some sort. (Plus, with all of the EOY tests around here, I needed something short and engaging.)
In Social Studies, we're beginning the 20th century, so I gave a short history lesson on comics--that piqued their interest. When I explained the assignment, I didn't hear one student complain about not knowing how to draw or what to write! They dove in and had fun.
Now, leading into the game, the students have already con

Ask the students to travel Around the Classroom in 24 Questions. That old worksheet needs a break. Have the students move around the classroom, joyfully looking for direct objects.
This activity allows the students to search confidently for answers. The sheets and secret phrase make it quick and easy to assess the students.
I've uploaded a generic Around the Classroom in 24 Questions that you can use with any subject.
To complement a unit on habitats and biomes, I created this lesson for Minecraft. The students created homes for a variety of biomes, considering the animals and materials in the areas.
I pushed them to consider to advantages/disadvantages of building on the ground or in the ground, in trees or in caves, in water or on the water, etc.
Admittedly, the students wanted to create extremely fancy homes. So, I would encourage you to preview the types of materials in the areas and give them a bank fr
I needed an end-of-year project that incorporated the review of important topics--multiplication, division, factors, and fractions. I came up with a basic role-playing game to combine review and superheroes. (Some teachers are geeks, too.) Although it seems that there's a long build-up with several steps, the students thoroughly enjoy each assignment.
To assist my students with their research of the 20th Century, I made simple charts for them to complete. To prevent distractions, I included four links to specific sites about each decade. I've included the direction sheet that I'm giving to the students, but that's something that you'll want to adapt for your classroom. I'm trying something new and giving mural.ly a shot.
With ten decades to cover, I'll probably have them work in teams, but that's not mentioned in the directions, so you may w
On these 8 sheets, you'll find geometry figures and definitions. I've included types of triangles, types of quadrilaterals, other polygons, types of solids, transformations, and other geometric figures and terms, such as congruent, faces, and vertices. They can be used as a memory game, a review station, or game cards. I prefer to copy them onto card stock.

Initially, I designed this lesson for adding/multiplying decimal numbers, and it's fine for that; however, I've started using it toward the end of the year as a lesson on basic spreadsheet formulas. As an end-of-the-year project, it allows the students to complete Internet research, which they enjoy, and to create an online slideshow project, which they also enjoy.
Collectible card games are crazy popular. So, I thought I'd try to capture their interest and imagination. This activity is great for the end-of-the-year. It allows for creativity, math review, descriptive writing, and alliteration.
This sheet is a reminder to students of their part in school. They must take responsibility for their own education. Whether keeping their binders organized, completing their homework, or asking questions in class, students will have a much better chance of success by addressing every link in the Chain of Success. I have the students keep it in their work folders.
