If you are teaching about the Goldilocks' Zone, or the atmosphere, or the requirement of water for life, this is the perfect project for your students! I teach this project toward the end of our solar system unit as a summative assessment tool. We typically spend 3 days in-class working on the assignment, with an additional couple days allowed at home if they need it. Students love the creativity of being able to design an entire planet from scratch! This project makes students use some higher-
Compare the skeletons of common rodents with the skeleton of humans with this interactive lab! Includes background information, lab procedures, and post-lab questions with a focus on human anatomy. This is a great lesson for students to learn about the different bones of the body. In addition to this download, you will need owl pellets for each student or pair of students, as well as a bone ID chart for each station. My recommended bone chart is through Cornell Labs, which I have linked below. I
The Pollinator Protection Plan gives students an opportunity to connect ecosystems, pollination, and conservation with their real-world family and home. They are encouraged to think critically about steps they can take to protect native, wild, and domestic bees in their community. This Google Doc includes three web links (can be printed out OR linked to students' devices) that provide examples of measures that can be taken, as well as the importance of pollinators in the ecosystem. It also incl
This is a great group project to introduce students to the solar system. On day one, groups of four get together and research one planet. On day two, groups present their findings to the class while the rest of the students take notes in their own presentations. By the end, every group should have a completed Slide presentation on the whole solar system, which can be saved on the computer or printed out into a booklet.
Get rid of students' ideas of a "food chain" with this fun and educational activity! Students are assigned an organism within a temperate forest ecosystem (based on east coast USA) and get to see where they fit within the food web. Organisms range from various plants, insects, birds, small mammals, and predators. This activity needs a ball of yarn or string for best results. Includes: Instructions (36) printable organism cards
Teach your students the scientific method with this fun activity! Students spend some time researching and preparing their paper airplanes using resources from NASA, and then get to test their hypotheses by modifying their planes and measuring their flight distances.
