Fun and creativity are the order of the day with these PBLs! Even the most reluctant students love these PBLs because they focus on each child's personal interests. As they research and create their dream bedroom/kid cave and draw it out on grid paper (included), they gain an understanding of design and spatial relations, as well as real-life budgeting, opportunity cost and unit conversions. This resource contains two PBLs, one for 3rd grade and one for 4th-5th grades. Third graders will apply k

True, deep understanding of place value is critical for mastery of all other mathematics. These placemats provide a scaffolded bridge between the concrete base-10 blocks and the abstract representation of place value. Grade levels are not identified on these mats so that you can use the one that matches the student's instructional level rather than his/her assigned grade level. The placemats can be used at all levels for the concepts of addition and subtraction of whole numbers as small as singl

As a Title I Math Specialist, I work with all grade levels (K-5th) every day. I use these "I can..." objective strips in a stand-up table chart. When students come to see me, all the objectives for the day are right in front of them and ready to go for a quick focus discussion. Prep Suggestions I recommend that you print out the objective strips on card stock. Laminate each page then cut the strips apart on the dark dotted lines. (The light dotted lines show where to fold a strip when the obje

It has long been known that graphic organizers deepen and clarify students' understanding of a story or article. We use them starting in kindergarten and continue to use them through high school and beyond. Years ago I discovered there were very few math graphic organizers. The few I did find were very specific to a particular math concept. I found nothing that bridged reading and math problem solving (word/story problems), so I made my own. Over the years, I have reworked the graphic organizers

This number line can be used to represent whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents. The value of each digit above the number line is determined by the number of zeros you add. For example, if you want the digits to represent hundreds, you would have students add two zeros to each number to create the sequence 0, 100, 200, 300, etc. To represent decimals, students would add zeros and a decimal point in front of each number. For example, if you wish to work in the hundredths place, student

This colorful addition basic facts table allows students to track their own progress as they become fluent with basic addition fact 0+0 through 10+10. This is a perfect addition to student math journals or data portfolios. Fact fluency can easily be differentiated by selecting just the facts you want your student to learn. There is also a small table where students can count down how many facts they still need to learn. I have found that my students are highly motivated by this countdown table.
