This file contains 5 3rd grade Common Core Tasks. These tasks address standards 3.OA.1, 3.OA.2, and 3.OA.3. These standards involve representing and solving problems involving multiplication and division. Each task requires critical thinking and justification in order for the students to show mastery.

The implementation of the Common Core Standards calls for a focus on the instruction of academic vocabulary. This vocabulary is referred to as Tier 2 or general academic words. Tier Two words are critical to understanding academic text, are more likely to appear in text than orally, require deliberate teaching, and are often multi-meaning. This document combines social studies and content area reading skills. Students will use the hardships faced by the pioneers to work on cause and effect. A word bank helps with the process. Students will have to identify both cause and effect.
