First graders are required to write research reports according to the CCSS standards. This two page report is an outline to guide students through that process. It was originally intended to be used as a prewrite for a PowerPoint presentation, however, it can also be used as it is or for a roughdraft.

This packet contains graphic organizers to use with any book. It covers all of the Common Core State Standards for Foundation Skills. It also includes many of the speaking and listening standards. The handouts are intended to be used with partners or groups of students so that there is a lot of discussion. I have used them in my first grade classroom and they worked quite well when combined with anchor charts. After introducing them, I use them during my literacy center/daily 5 time.

Teach all about setting using the art of Georges Seurat. Students generate setting vocabulary in groups. They then create their own Seurat art piece and describe it using setting vocabulary.
