Take a Peek Inside the PBL Workbook!

  • Activity #1- French Bakery: Students partition shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths as well as create arrays up to 5x5 as they help fulfill orders at a bakery in France! (3 pgs.)
  • Activity #2- Riding the Metro: Students solve 1-2 step word problems involving addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers as they navigate a map of three (fictional) trains in the Paris Metro system. (3 pgs.)
  • Activity #3- Seeing the Sites: Students are tourists in France as they practice their skills with time and money. Create a schedule to make sure you visit all the sites you’d like to see! (3 pgs.)
  • Printable Game- Adventures in Paris: In this 2-4 player group board game, students move their game pieces around the board and draw cards to experience the highs and lows of a vacation in Paris! They add and subtract points for each “event” they experience. Whoever has the most points when they reach the Eiffel Tower wins!
  • Student Self-Reflection: Students answer questions about how they feel they are doing with the math concepts practiced throughout this workbook. They discuss what they liked, what they struggle with, and what questions they have.

How to Use This Resource in Your Classroom:

Instructions:

  • Print and copy this workbook for each student. Save ink with the printer-friendly version included!
  • Use this activity for REVIEW AND PRACTICE after students have learned the content.
  • Students should be able to complete each activity in 20-30 minutes.

Activity Variations:

  • This activity is PERFECT for math centers! Students can work independently or with a small group.
  • Use this activity with a teacher-led small group for students that need extra guidance and support.
  • Assign this to students that are home sick or on vacation to encourage them to complete math activities while they are away from school.
  • Leave these activities for a substitute to do with students!
  • Have a teacher aide or parent volunteer work through problems with students that are struggling.

How will this resource benefit my students:

  • Students work through a combination of different 2nd-grade math standards to practice fluency and gain comprehension.
