Objective: Test students multiplication fluency.

Standard:
-CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NBT.B.5: Fluently multiply multi-digit whole number using the standard algorithm.

Directions:
The product contains multiplication problems in the form of a 4 x 4 grid. Nine versions of the puzzle are included for differentiation. The versions vary in the GRAPHICS and not in the actual multiplication problems. Three versions have 4 graphics, three versions have 9 graphics, and three versions have 16 graphics. As the number of graphics increases so does the difficulty, as they don't aid the student in constructing the puzzle as much.

We have found these puzzles to be a great tool in our classrooms, and have created them for a variety of topics. Students don’t realize that they are solving up to 24 problems when completing them. What has been successful for us is to give points for correctly completing the puzzle, and extra credit points for the first few groups that finish.
