5th grade math guided notes/reference sheets for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals; adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions and mixed numbers; dividing unit fractions (and more) are more engaging with the math wheel format!

What is a math wheel? It's a type of graphic organizer where students can:

  • Take notes inside the math wheel
  • Use color, drawing, and doodling to help create memory triggers
  • Complete practice problems in the pattern around the wheel, and
  • Color the background pattern, if desired

Students can keep these graphic organizers in their interactive notebooks all year as a reference sheet/study tool. The wheels are excellent to review concepts as part of your test prep!

  • You can even enlarge the math wheels and use them as posters or anchor charts!

This 5th grade math wheel bundle covers 10 topics.

Each 5th grade math wheel file includes:

1) Math wheel (s) with sections for each step or definition, depending on the topic

  • There are 3 different versions of each student wheel: 'open' notes, 'fill-in' notes, and 'pre-filled' notes.

2) Key with suggested notes

3) Colored sample

4) Editable PowerPoint file with a blank wheel (some have two blank wheels) so you can create your own math wheels (for classroom use only)

Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, 𝘢/𝘣 + 𝘤/𝘥 = (𝘢𝘥 + 𝘣𝘤)/𝘣𝘥.)
