Now updated with a digital option! The digital option is a Google Form.

Will your class escape in time? No way! The animals at the zoo have escaped their enclosures. Your students have been tasked with putting them back in place. Students will try and breakout from their risky situation by solving a string of math problems and clues. This is a review game for the math concepts taught in 3rd grade under the domain of numbers and operations in base ten. It can be played in small groups, or as a whole class. If your class has never played an escape game before, I suggest playing as a whole class for the first time.

**Versions with and without QR codes included

This is an interactive game where the students are timed. Students try and solve clues and math problems to breakout and escape the classroom. You, the teacher, can decide how much time your students have to complete the task. I will suggest 45 minutes, but it is up to your discretion. You can project a timer for your class, or put one somewhere for all the students to see, so they can keep track of how much time they have left to complete their task.

This is similar to a scavenger hunt where students will be moving around the room, looking for clues to unlock their envelopes (I have included riddles and suggestions on where to hide each clue). To unlock their envelopes, students will need to solve math problems. A paper is provided so students can show their work for each problem. For many of the questions, students must have an answer that matches one on an envelope. If the answers do not match, they can’t open or “unlock” the envelope, and must rework the problem.

*Everything is included, however teachers must provide their own envelopes.

I give step by step instructions on how to set up the game, including pictures! This is sure to capture the attention of your students.

Topics covered in this game:

Number and Operations in Base Ten

*Using place value to round numbers to the nearest 10 or 100

*Fluently adding and subtracting within 1,000.

*Multiplying one-digit whole numbers by multiples of 10.

For the digital option:

Technology Requirements

  • A Google Drive account
  • If sharing with students, a Drive account that is linked to student Google accounts
  • Can be shared/delivered on Google Classroom
  • Only need access to Goggle Drive--no outside links to worry about!

This escape room can be used with iPads, chrome books, laptops, and desktops as long as your students have access to Google Drive or Classroom on a device. The escape room is on a Google Form. Students must answer the questions correctly to advance to the next section, and eventually escape.

Great value
This escape room was an exciting way for my students to practice key skills. They worked on rounding, adding and subtracting within 1,000, and multiplying by tens, all while solving fun puzzles. It kept them motivated and made math practice feel like an adventure.

Great value
I only use the digital option so I can't speak to the printable one. My students can't get enough of these! Teresa's are always amazing and accurate. I will add that students need to read CLOSELY to know what the questions is asking and honestly I love that about it. The questions align really well with our standards.
