Decomposing Fractions Task Card - Math Center
Share

Description

Students use fraction circles to help understand how to decompose fractions. I laminate these cards and have them available for students to use. When I am introducing decomposing fractions I project the directions and all the students complete the task. Then I make the task card available for students to use during small group instruction.

These are some more task cards for math centers. I print them on white cardstock and laminate them. The card is smaller than an 8 ½ x 11in page so that it fits in a gallon storage bag for easy storage and organization.

Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each decomposition by an equation. Justify decompositions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. Examples: 3/8 = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8; 3/8 = 1/8 + 2/8; 2 1/8 = 1 + 1 + 1/8 = 8/8 + 8/8 + 1/8.
