Description

This fraction check in is 18 questions. It reviews the skills from the first check in, as well as assesses the next logical skills in the fraction progression. There is a grouping tool at the top to mark as you score in order to create strategy groups for the future. I give this assessment at the end of a lesson, or at the very beginning because it's short and sweet!

Students will be quickly assessed on the following:
*drawing a fraction picture
*creating equivalent fractions using multiplication and division
*simplifying fractions
*prove fractions are equivalent with 2 bar models
*comparing fractions using benchmarks (same denominator/same numerator)
*comparing fractions by creating common denominators
*ordering fractions

Explain why a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 is equivalent to a fraction (𝘯 × 𝘢)/(𝘯 × 𝘣) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
