Description

Are your students struggling to grasp the concepts of slope on distance-time or speed-time graphs? This comprehensive unit will guide them through understanding horizontal, diagonal, and curved motion lines that represent constant motion, acceleration, and rest. They can also calculate average speed with these no prep practice worksheets. Aligned with NGSS standards HS-PS2-1 and MS-PS2-2, this resource focuses on motion, forces, and acceleration, ensuring your students build a solid foundation by the time they finish.

What’s Inside the Unit:

Teacher Support: Extensive notes, background information, and reference guides are included to support your teaching process. You'll also find a list of essential keywords to help students develop the necessary vocabulary.

Distance-Time Graphs: Three distance-time graphs, each with nine segments, allow students to interpret varying changes in motion. A corresponding chart is provided for students to record their observations.

Speed-Time Graphs: Three speed-time graphs, each with nine segments, challenge students to understand and analyze speed changes over time. These graphs also come with answer charts for easy assessment.

Drawing Slope Lines:The unit concludes with three engaging stories. Two stories require students to draw slopes on distance-time graphs, and one focuses on a speed-time graph. This activity encourages students to apply what they've learned creatively and analytically.

Additional Features:

Answer Keys: Comprehensive answer keys are included for all components of the unit, allowing for quick and accurate grading.

Flexible Format: This resource can be used as either digital or printable images, making it easy to integrate into any classroom setting.

There are several methods I use to get this resource to students.

1. Since this is a PowerPoint, I simply upload it into a Google slides presentation and share it on Google Classroom with each individual student.   The students can then copy which slides they want and paste them into their own Google Slides unit presentation and add text boxes.

2. You can export the PowerPoint into images and then send the images to them in Google Classroom. They can pick and choose which ones they want to use as a background and add text boxes.

3. You can download the PowerPoint into images and place all of the images into a Google Drive folder to share with the students.  They can go in and pick and choose which background they want.

4. If you are using iPads, in the same room as the students, you can simply AirDrop the images, Powerpoint or Google Slides presentation to their iPads .

If you have any questions at all, as to how to use these, please contact me at Karensinai2@gmail.com and I am more than happy to help you!

Met expectations
Great value
Standards-aligned
It helped me to prepare review sessions and provided me with some exercises that are adapted for 5th grade. Nonetheless, there are some exercises that can be too challenging for them. So you might need to adjust them or not use them.

The students really enjoyed this resource! It was engaging and kept them interested throughout, making it a great addition to the classroom. We did some together as a class, small group and independent. I went further and had my student put more detailed answers to challenge them. I’ll definitely be using them again!

Standards

NGSSMS-PS2-4
Construct and present arguments using evidence to support the claim that gravitational interactions are attractive and depend on the masses of interacting objects. Examples of evidence for arguments could include data generated from simulations or digital tools; and charts displaying mass, strength of interaction, distance from the Sun, and orbital periods of objects within the solar system. Assessment does not include Newton’s Law of Gravitation or Kepler’s Laws.
NGSSMS-PS2-2
Plan an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object. Emphasis is on balanced (Newton’s First Law) and unbalanced forces in a system, qualitative comparisons of forces, mass and changes in motion (Newton’s Second Law), frame of reference, and specification of units. Assessment is limited to forces and changes in motion in one-dimension in an inertial reference frame, and to change in one variable at a time. Assessment does not include the use of trigonometry.
NGSSHS-PS2-1
Analyze data to support the claim that Newton’s second law of motion describes the mathematical relationship among the net force on a macroscopic object, its mass, and its acceleration. Assessment is limited to one-dimensional motion and to macroscopic objects moving at non-relativistic speeds. Examples of data could include tables or graphs of position or velocity as a function of time for objects subject to a net unbalanced force, such as a falling object, an object sliding down a ramp, or a moving object being pulled by a constant force.
