Close Reading: Pfeiffer Beach (Non-Fiction passage about California's Purple Sand beach)

Close Reading: Pitcairn Island (Non-Fiction about the the people of the Mutiny on the Bounty)

Close Reading: Brazil I created this one summer during the World Cup. I had received to beautiful samples of sand from Brazil, which are featured in this close reading. The reading should be done in sections because it is several pages. I usually spend a week on this project.

Columbus: The Voyage ~ A Play  Since I have sand from this area where Columbus explored, I make the connection. It makes a great play for the beginning of the year.

Columbus Day Sailor Hats ~ a Craftivity

Family Shield Craftivity (This really goes with either Columbus or Explorers)

Dr. Seuss: A Play about the Sneetches Of course, this story takes place on the beach. This is a top seller that your students will love.
