Description

This easy-prep packet promotes exploration to deepen students’ conceptual understanding of equivalent fractions in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. Choose challenging fraction worksheets for students to calculate and color or incorporate a variety of art projects into your math class. Your students will be comparing fractions, adding fractions, and may not even realize they are doing math.

This is a print and go packet. If you prefer this project to be accessible in both print and digital for Google Slides click here.

No pattern blocks, no problem! Black-line masters are included-simply print and students can cut out their own blocks.

Students will have fun whether you choose a worksheet for students to calculate and color or students create their own masterpiece to calculate and decorate. Their creations make a great math/art gallery walk while classmates calculate the value of other students’ masterpieces.

Lesson plans are included in this packet as well as suggestions for different projects you can do using the parts of this packet. This project provides easy differentiation for your learners!

  • Use pattern blocks or print black-line figures for students to calculate the value of the figure using pattern blocks.
  • Print pattern blocks on bright colored paper. Students cut and paste into a stained glass like design and then calculate the value.
  • Print pattern blocks for students to trace and create a figure to calculate. Students can color or paint their design.

This packet offers great flexibility and includes:

  • pattern blocks in two sizes for students to cut
  • 27 figures (black-line masters)
  • lesson plan options to help learners with conceptual understanding of fractions
  • lesson plan options to easily integrate art into this math project
  • calculation recording sheets (graphic organizer) that help students organize their thinking
  • classroom recording sheet for gallery walk
  • an answer key that shows possible solutions paths as well as the solution to each figure
  • a cumulative quiz to help you check for understanding with answer key
