Properties of Exponents (all Exponent Rules including Negatives) Riddle Activity

In this Valentine's Day themed activity, students will practice the laws of exponents by simplifying 19 problems. The first problems are split by the product property, quotient property and then the power rule, and then the last section is a combination of rules with students needing to know how to simplify zero and negative exponents throughout. Students will complete the problem, then match their answer to an answer in the box. The letter of the answer will then go in the box with the problem

Factoring Quadratic Trinomials EDITABLE Guided Notes Algebra 1 Scaffolded Notes

These notes go along with factoring trinomials unit. They start off with examples showcasing that Factoring is simply reverse multiplication. Then the notes move into factoring trinomials, using the "X" game method (a*c method). This method has students multiply the first and last coefficients to find the "magic number" and then list the factors for that number to find the factors that add up to the middle number with the second term in the polynomial. There is also an extended section discus

Solving Quadratic Equations by Factoring Scavenger Hunt Activity Algebra 1

In this activity, students will practice solving quadratic equations. Each of the following trinomials can be factored to find the solutions to the equation. Before factoring and solving, some problems require students to combine like terms or to put it in standard form, while some are already in standard form. I usually will put the stations around the room, then have students start wherever they would like. The answers all loop around, no matter which problem you start with. Students love bei

Factor out Greatest Common Factor (GCF) Algebra 1 Factoring Color By Number

In this no-prep, self-checking activity, students will practice identifying and factoring out a greatest common factor (GCF) from a binomial, trinomial or 4-term Polynomial. They will have to match their GCF to an answer in the same row. The matching GCF has a color above it, which the students will then color all numbered segments in the Pi picture with that color. Students must know how to factor out a GCF from: binomialstrinomials 4-term polynomialThere are TWO options for the activity. The

Experience

I have been teaching and creating my own resources since 2014. I have experience teaching Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 (including Pre-AP/Pre-IB), and Pre-Calculus. I have taught special education collaborative classes, honors classes and ESL classes.

Teaching style

I love for my notes to be organized and scaffolded, so students feel ready to tackle the hard problems when they get to them instead of being scared away. I try to use fun review games like Bingo, jeopardy, and other powerpoint/smartboard games to get students excited about the material! Task cards in the classroom is also a must! There are a million uses for them and they help break up the monotony of worksheets! I believe that my enthusiasm for math will motivate my students to succeed and begin to like math a little bit more in my classroom.

Awards & shining teacher moments

My own education history

I have a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.Ed. in Secondary Mathematics Education (7-12)

Additional biographical information

In addition to teaching, I love to read and be outside. I love traveling and I love going to the beach. If I wasn't a math teacher, I would have loved to be a science teacher, and I'm working towards being dual certified to teach math and science. Questions about me or my products?
